Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Engineer with over 10 years of experience in commercial and industrial construction to ensure workplace safety and compliance across large-scale projects. This role involves designing, implementing, and managing safety systems and programs to mitigate risks and protect employees, contractors, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction safety, regulatory compliance, and a proven ability to foster a culture of safety on complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Program Development and Implementation
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety programs tailored to commercial and industrial construction projects.
- Establish safety policies and procedures in alignment with OSHA and other applicable regulations.
- Conduct regular training sessions and workshops to promote safety awareness and compliance among employees and contractors.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation
- Perform hazard analyses and risk assessments on construction sites to identify and mitigate potential safety concerns.
- Recommend and oversee the implementation of engineering controls and safety equipment.
- Develop emergency response plans and coordinate drills to ensure readiness.
Site Inspections and Audits
- Conduct routine safety inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
- Identify violations, issue corrective actions, and monitor progress to ensure resolutions are implemented effectively.
- Prepare detailed reports documenting safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective measures.
Incident Investigation and Reporting
- Lead investigations into workplace accidents, incidents, and near-misses to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
- Compile and submit comprehensive incident reports to management and regulatory authorities as required.
- Analyze incident trends to propose proactive safety measures.
Regulatory Compliance
- Stay updated on federal, state, and local safety regulations relevant to commercial and industrial construction.
- Ensure all project sites comply with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable standards.
- Manage permits, documentation, and certifications required for project safety compliance.
Collaboration and Leadership
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to integrate safety considerations into project planning and execution.
- Lead safety committees and provide regular updates on safety performance to stakeholders.
- Foster a culture of safety, encouraging open communication and proactive identification of potential hazards.

Required Experience:
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related field (required).
- Master’s degree or advanced certifications (e.g., CSP, CHST, CIH) preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in health and safety roles within commercial and industrial construction.
- Proven track record of managing safety programs for projects exceeding $10 million in value.
- Extensive experience conducting risk assessments and managing compliance audits.
Skills and Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, and other relevant safety standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities, with the capacity to influence and train diverse teams.
- Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on public sector construction projects.
- Familiarity with sustainable construction practices and innovative safety technologies.
- Additional certifications, such as First Aid/CPR Instructor or HAZWOPER, are a plus.
