Head Summer Day Camp Counselor-Lindley Recreation Center (Roster) - City of Greensboro

The City of Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department, a nationally accredited and four-time National Gold Medal Award winner, is looking for passionate individuals to join our team as Head Summer Day Camp Counselors. • May through August
• Approximately 40 hours per week
• Must attend orientation and training prior to the start of camp

Important Information About Roster Positions

Thank you for considering a roster position with the City of Greensboro! These positions are an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute to our community. Please review the details below to ensure you understand the nature of roster employment:

• Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
• Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.  
• Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.

While roster positions do not include benefits, they are often a pathway to full-time, benefited employment with the City. Many of our current full-time employees started in roster positions, and we encourage you to explore this opportunity as a potential first step in your career with us.

As the Head Summer Day Camp Counselor, you’ll lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the summer camp program at Lindley Recreation Center. Your responsibilities include:

• Program Management: Plan, organize, and implement daily schedules with activities like crafts, sports, music, wellness, and field trips.
• Leadership: Supervise and mentor children and camp staff, exemplifying the City of Greensboro's Core Values (Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Stewardship).
• Safety and Communication: Ensure the well-being of campers, handle emergencies, and maintain positive relationships with parents and staff.
• Administrative Tasks: Keep accurate records, respond to program inquiries, and ensure the camp area is clean and organized.

Must work as scheduled from May through August and have reliable transportation.
