Description Job Title: Head Start Teacher
Position Summary:
The Head Start Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising all classroom activities. The teacher makes social service referrals and shares responsibility for parent involvement in the program. The teacher works with other team members to support the goals of the program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Implement educational programming within the program philosophy and under all Office of Head Start Performance Standards for early childhood accreditation and licensing requirements to support the social/emotional (mental health) and developmental needs of each child.
Demonstrate and teach child development to parents, volunteers, and staff, and intentionally apply principles to programming.
Plan and maintain an integrated classroom environment and materials in response to the enrolled children and ensure organization, cleanliness, and safety in all classrooms.
Analyze observations and assessments to plan for each child.
Write individual learning plan (ILP) for each child based on observational notes, the developmental continuum, and parent input (include five objectives: social-emotional, first language and literacy, second language and literacy, cognitive, and physical development).
Use developmentally appropriate means of communicating with the children.
Assist with the maintenance of a clean, healthy, and safe environment.
Qualifications
B.A. or B.S. in Early Childhood Education/equivalent degree with experience teaching preschool-aged children preferred; OR
B.A./B.S. in a related field including 30 ECE credits with experience teaching preschool-aged children required; OR
B.A./B.S. in Elementary Education and 18 ECE credits with experience teaching preschool-aged children required; OR
B.A. /B.S. with ECE Certification with experience teaching preschool-aged children required
Knowledge and skills in the field of early childhood development
Knowledge of Office of Head Start Performance Standards of Early Childhood
Knowledge of various service resources in the community
Knowledge of the state and federal regulations pertaining to child abuse and neglect and childcare licensing requirements
Knowledge of local resources, languages and customs
Additional Requirements:
1. Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).
2. School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
