Head Start Program Assistant

Southern Seven Health Department is seeking applications for a full time (10 months/year) Program Assistant that is based at the Hardin County Head Start in Elizabethtown, Illinois. It does come with a benefit package (including vacation, personal, and sick time accrual, holidays, health and life insurance, and an employer sponsored cafeteria plan). This position's duties vary upon the needs of the center but could involve any and all of the following: working with a child (or children) with special needs, assisting in the classroom, working in the kitchen, custodial, and/or office, or riding a Head Start bus as a bus monitor.
Qualifications: At a minimum the applicant must be at least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED; prefer early childhood college hours and experience in working with children.
Pay: $15.30-$16.87
Job Duties:
- Encourages and assists children in all personal and hygiene activities.
- Maintains responsibility for ensuring the safety of child assigned to him/her in the event of a safety evacuation and/or drill.
- Works cooperatively with the Teacher and the other staff using the team approach to classroom management.
- Maintains a modified appropriate daily schedule for child assigned to him/her but is flexible based upon the needs of the child or children.
- Attends therapy session (s) with assigned child as appropriate to learn different techniques to assist the child with meeting their individualized goals.
- Rides Head Start bus (for field trips, dental clinics, etc.) as assigned and follows all safety rules, policies, and procedures.
- Assures that all children are supervised at all times.
- Participates in family style meals and snacks at the table with the children.
- Provides assistance in the kitchen as needed with items such as dishes and preparing and serving meals.
- Provides assistance in cleaning the center as needed with items such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and cleaning bathrooms.
- Provides assistance in the office as needed with items such as copying newsletters, filing, and answering the phone and taking messages.
- Any other duties as requested or assigned to meet the requirements of the Head Start program
