About the Job
Head of Ground Systems (Zipline International Inc, South San Francisco, CA): Be responsible for electrical engineering and embedded software teams that will own low voltage electronics and PCBA development, power electronics, power infrastructure, and industrial controls for both design and testing. Mechanical engineering teams design and validate electromechanical systems for high volume production. Build teams by hiring and coaching world class engineers and technical program managers. Manage the requirements and verification test plans of the next generation of Zipline ground system hardware. Create and manage milestones and deliverables for both product design and test/validation milestones for the Ground Systems team. Maintain visibility across the hardware the team owns and have the ability to deep dive into projects and challenges. Liaise with other technical leaders both within and outside of the Ground Systems Hardware team (Field Operations, System Test, New Product Introduction, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Test, Embedded Systems, and more). Leverage technical leadership experience in hardware design to establish a team culture that biases towards action and tests ideas to achieve radically simple designs. Motivate team with a clear vision and create ambitious plans for team’s work while holding a high bar for technical quality. Establish best practices, standards, and design and release review processes that enable both high speed development and rigorous execution. Must have the following skills and experience in order to perform the above-mentioned tasks: Experience owning complex subassemblies or full systems over at least 3 product programs (concept, prototype, validation, production). Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals for product design direction and validation. Familiarity with mechanism design and the integration of electrical components into hardware products. Knowledge of manufacturing methods such as welding, sheet metal forming, extrusion, CNC machining, injection molding. Experience partnering with contract manufacturers to ramp up production of high-volume lines. Experience communicating and tailoring to an audience at all levels of technical proficiency with the right level of technical depth to be as effective as possible. Requires a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or closely-related field and at least 5 years of experience in Hardware Development or related occupation. Travel required: ~10% within the US to visit suppliers, customer sites, and Zipline operational nests. Salary: $182,645 - $220,000. Send C.V. to immigration@flyzipline.com.
