Required Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate, receive and assign instructions, direct work, recognize and change priorities, and solve basic employee related issues according to policy.
- Determine acceptable work quality and quantity.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs. and perform strenuous physical duties for an entire shift.
- Application of safety practices related to work assignments, safe use of industry related equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in mowing, trimming and maintenance of turf areas and utilizing the proper grounds operations equipment required for turf maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of horticulture and ornamental plant materials, including trees and utilizing the proper grounds operations equipment required to maintain their growth habits and needs.
- Knowledge of employee policy procedures and standards for staff.
- Basic knowledge of proper pesticide use.
- Knowledge of PPE.
Job Description:
Responsible for leading grounds maintenance crews, assigning and monitoring duties, while performing a wide variety of grounds maintenance duties.
Job Duties:
- Responsible for leading grounds maintenance crews, assigning and monitoring duties, while performing a wide variety of grounds maintenance duties.
- Prioritize and reprioritize work as needed during shift.
- Supervise in supervisor's absence.
- Report to Supervisor any problems/issues on campus.
- Police assigned areas.
- Pick up trash around over filled dumpsters.
- Maintain turf areas.
- Maintain shrub and ground cover beds.
- Clean shop area.
- Maintain paved areas with use of herbicides.
- Prepare schedules; assign work and record hours for self and crew.
- Maintain chemical spraying records and vehicle mileages.
- Prepare soil for planting grass, sod, flowers, shrubs, ground cover and trees.
- Mulch.
- Weed.
- Perform general PM and servicing equipment.
- Calibrate equipment.
- Haul and spread sand and de-icer during bad weather also leaf removal on drains.
- Help train new employees.
- Report any safety issues.
- Clean shop area and Monitor condition of equipment, calibrate and perform minor PM, and notify
- supervisor of replacement or repair needs.
- Able to use a computer and use its programs (AIMs, SAP, etc..)
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Information to Applicants:
- This position requires driving University vehicles.
