Head Football Coach (2025-26)
Porter-Gaud School is an Episcopal, independent, coeducational day school of 1,650 students in preschool through grade 12. The School is seeking a Head Football Coach for the 2025-26 school year to begin June 2, 2025, with the possibility of being on campus for spring practice in May. This position is full-time with the responsibilities of Head Football Coach in addition to other teaching duties. Primary Responsibilities:
- Coordinates the full football program (varsity and JV) in accordance with the mission and values of the PG athletic department
- Builds a team culture of competitive excellence and high character
- Involved in selection, leadership, and training of a staff of coaches at the varsity and JV levels
- Directs all phases of a successful football program including in-season, off-season, and summer
- Encourages broad participation from student athletes on campus
- Assists Athletic Director in establishing program budget and schedule
- Promotes and encourages multi-sport participation by student athletes
- Promotes players for local, state, and national recognition, and to colleges as applicableStays current in ongoing coaching education
- Performs other teaching, administrative, or professional duties as assigned by the Head of School or Athletic Director
- Attends public functions that represent the School and the program as instructed by the Head of School or Athletic Director
- Collaborate with the School's communications team to oversee and ensure consistent branding and messaging while leveraging social media platforms to enhance recruitment efforts, showcase player development, and build a strong online following.
- Willingness to support diversity and inclusion efforts at the school. The Head Football Coach will display a continuous commitment to developing the attitudes, knowledge, and skills (intercultural competence) to engage in appropriate and effective communication with students, colleagues, and families from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited college or university. The School highly values advanced degrees, such as Master's and Doctorates, and considers them not only in determining compensation but also when selecting and prioritizing candidates.
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated success as a head coach, or offensive or defensive coordinator at the high school level or above
- Ability to teach one or more academic courses at the high school or middle school level
- Strong organizational and communication skills in dealing with the many constituencies of a successful football program
- Proficient in leveraging social media platforms to effectively promote the school, its programs, and athletes, highlighting their value and achievements.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a team leader with individuals and groups
- Ability to inspire an enthusiastic environment within the School community
Reporting: The position has a dual reporting structure. The Head Football Coach reports to both the Athletic Director and appropriate Division Head.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
