Head Coach - Volleyball
Athletics
The Head Volleyball Coach will assist the university in meeting the goals of the mission and the athletic department through professional management of the volleyball program. The goals are to 1) provide every opportunity for the volleyball program to compete for the Lone Star Conference Championship and reach the NAA tournament each year while maintaining a focus on the student-athlete experience and welfare, 2) operate with quality and integrity in the athletic department's role as a focal point for school identity and spirit, 3) support the community through public service, 4) provide opportunities and support for student athletes to achieve the highest levels of academic and athletic performance, and 5) provide programming and resources that help prepare student-athletes with skills for life.
Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree, preferably in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or Exercise Science. A Master's Degree is strongly preferred.
- Successful background in coaching volleyball, preferably with three to five years of head coaching experience at the collegiate level.
- Ability to relate effectively to student-athletes, recruits, and their families.
- Ability to motivate student-athletes to be successful students, athletes, and citizens.
- A demonstrated commitment to high academic standards and healthy lifestyles for student-athletes.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to manage team dynamics.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication administrative, and organizational skills.
- Basic familiarity, appreciation, and empathy with the role of intercollegiate athletics and its relationship to the university, and the capacity to articulate that role and interact comfortably with those individuals and constituency groups (student-athletes, alumni, coaches, parents, etc.) crucial to the advancement of athletics at SEU.
- Must successfully pass the NCAA Coaching Modules.
- The successful candidate should provide evidence of the ability to build a winning program consistent with the values of NCAA Division II and the mission of the University.
- Successful completion of an employment and criminal history background check is required.
Responsibilities:
Primary:
- Direct, administer, and coordinate all aspects of a NCAA Division II program within the rules, guidelines, and principles of the NCAA, Lone Star Conference, and the university.
- The position includes coaching, coordination of the recruiting process, monitoring academics progress, scheduling, budget administration, community activities, promotion of the program, and being an engaged member of the athletic department and university community.
- Make strategic decisions in contest situations.
- Travel nationwide for competition and recruiting.
- Counsel student-athletes concerning academic progress.
Secondary:
- Keep stats and charts during practices and competitions.
- Ability to calculate and navigate statistical data for feedback
- Purchase and organization of equipment.
- Camp operations and fundraising
- Additional staff duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
