Job Summary
We are seeking a Harness Designer to join our team in Troy, MI. This position involves the design, development, and integration of complex military combat vehicle electronic and power harness systems. If you have at least 5 years of experience in harness design and development, along with an associate degree in Product Design or a related field, we encourage you to apply.
Essential Functions
- Design and manage harness systems using CAD software.
- Create and maintain 3D and 2D harness drawings.
- Conduct requirements analysis, routing, and decomposition activities.
- Perform trade studies and develop solutions to meet customer requirements.
- Interact with internal and external customers and suppliers.
- Reverse engineer designs and resolve manufacturing and quality issues.
- Apply ASME standards, GD&T practices, and harness accessories knowledge.
- Support multi-disciplinary engineering activities for vehicle development.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- None.
Minimum Qualifications
- Proficiency in systems-based design and related standards/processes.
- Hands-on experience with PTC Creo or similar MCAD tools (e.g., UG Nx, SolidWorks, CATIA).
- Knowledge of U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) ground vehicle requirements and military/commercial standards.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze and resolve complex technical challenges.
- Self-motivated with strong multi-tasking and prioritization abilities.
Education
- Associate degree in Product Design or a related field (e.g., Technology, Electrical, Aerospace, Automotive).
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems) preferred, or equivalent work experience.
Experience
- 5+ years in harness design and development.
- Experience in U.S. Defense vehicle programs and military standards.
- Proven track record in harness development throughout the product lifecycle.
- Multi-discipline and multi-national team experience is a plus.
Background Prerequisites
- Must meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks, and controlled substance testing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to speak German is a plus.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Standing for long periods.
- Domestic and international travel may be required.
