Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Hardware Systems Engineer to join our team at Meta Reality Labs. As a key member of the hardware systems engineering team, you will be responsible for ensuring the convergence of complex and novel sub-system and product architectures aimed at pushing the state-of-the-art consumer mixed reality systems.In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to derive and interpret business and operational needs into technical requirements, determine critical interactions between subsystems, and work closely with engineering and field-based operations teams to articulate success criteria. Furthermore, you will execute validation and verification activities for new product integration, including system-level and subsystem testing, to ensure that the hardware systems meet the specified requirements and function correctly in the intended environment. As a Hardware Systems Engineer, you will build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and subject matter experts to ensure alignment on project goals and requirements. This role requires expert technical communication with cross-functional teams across industrial design, product design, electrical engineering, displays and optics, partnerships, supply chain, and core technology groups to drive incubation of new technologies from proof of concept through integration into products for mass production.You will address complex engineering challenges by leveraging a broad understanding of Meta's infrastructure, identifying trends and systemic issues in the hardware fleet, and driving resolutions. Effective communication and documentation skills are essential, as you will need to write and review code, develop documentation, and debug complex systems.

Hardware Systems Engineer Responsibilities:
1. Drive development of system requirements to create new virtual (VR) and mixed reality (MR) experiences, and help advance technology and research roadmap
2. Work on all aspects of system engineering from initial identification of risk, opportunities, and issues at the operational level through to the strategic decision processes.
3. Manage data-driven methods for developing requirements and verification related deliverables, such as specifications, design criteria, system descriptions, and verification tracking
4. Develop processes to ensure proper documentation at all stages of product development, requirements flow, verification and validation, and interaction between various subsystems
5. Ensure Systems Engineering is represented in all design reviews and the needs of various subsystems are properly addressed
6. Coordinate and facilitate technical discussions to resolve requirement issues
7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on blank-slate and early-phase prototyping and product exploration, mapping it to strategic and product questions which need to be resolved
8. Create hardware system metrics, KPIs, standards and tools
9. Develop and execute comprehensive verification and validation strategies to ensure that hardware systems meet the specified requirements and function correctly in the intended environment.
10. Design and implement testing plans, procedures, and protocols to validate system performance, functionality, and reliability, including system-level and subsystem testing.
11. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate testing and validation activities into the overall product development process, ensuring that testing is aligned with project goals and timelines.

12. Engineering background in electrical, mechanical, optics, semiconductors, or related fields
13. 5+ years of product experience in electrical, mechanical or optical engineering
14. Proven experience in driving architecture convergence on complex consumer electronics products
15. Experience integrating and delivering one or more of these technologies: displays, optics, silicon, sensors, thermal systems
16. Proven systems skills and experience working with experts in different fields to make architectural tradeoffs
17. Proven communication and documentation skills

18. MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or other related technical field
19. Experience in regulated industries such as aerospace, defense, automotive, or medical
20. Familiarity with mixed reality hardware production and development processes
21. Working knowledge across multiple areas, including interfaces, optical, sensors, modules, ISP and algorithm fundamentals, CV/ML, network impacts on latency, throughput, and jitter
22. Experience with SoC evaluation, optical systems, sensors, CV algorithms, software
Public Compensation:
$139,000/year to $200,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
