About the Job
The Tactical Space Systems Group (Group 96) develops technologies and prototypes to enhance the performance and resilience of U.S. space systems and to provide flexible new space capabilities to the U.S. Government. The Group executes both large-scale system prototypes including satellite payloads and ground systems, as well as earlier stage technology development and demonstration programs with partner groups across the laboratory. The group is predominantly composed of scientists and engineers with expertise in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, electronics and software/firmware.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Group 96 – Tactical Space Systems – is seeking a Technical Staff to join our team to lead and contribute on a wide range of hardware prototyping efforts. Roles range from originating or contributing to new efforts in small teams to owning key technical tasks in larger prototyping programs. The successful candidate will architect technical solutions to challenging problems, and will contribute directly to hands-on hardware and software design, fabrication and test activities. The candidate will work within a diverse group of technical personnel, including mechanical and electrical designers, fabrication, assembly and integration specialists, and hardware test engineers to complete system development and characterization. The candidate will also in many cases support operation of the system in a representative field environment with the potential to transfer the knowledge gained during development and testing to future operators. The ability to adapt quickly to changing needs and to learn new subject areas and incorporate new technologies is critical to the job.
REQUIREMENTS:
PhD in Engineering or Physics or MS degree and 5 years’ experience.
Demonstrated ability to design, conduct, and analyze complex experiments
Hands-on experience with experimental hardware, as well as data-acquisition and processing systems.
Excellent oral and written communications skills, in particular, with the ability to communicate experimental results to Government sponsors who may not be technical experts.
Self-motivated individual with the demonstrated capability to excel with limited oversight while having excellent communication skills to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary technical team environment.

Experience with analysis in programming languages (Matlab, Python, and/or Java and C++)
Experience performing hands-on testing and troubleshooting within a laboratory environment
