Job Description
The Harrisburg International Airport is a commercial service small hub airport that serves approximately 1.4 million passengers annually as well as 3 general aviation airports. The Airport Worker I is an entry level position in our Grounds Maintenance department responsible for developmental stages and implementation of daily regulations and operating procedures within the airport environment.
Responsibilities
- Develops a fluent understanding of and complies with all SARAA, FAA, and TSA safety, security, and operational regulations and standards
- Develops the knowledge and ability to perform safe movements on the airfield utilizing radio communications
- Develops an understanding of and helps complete routine and non-routine maintenance procedures such as mowing, landscaping, tree trimming and removal, general plumbing, fencing, pavement repairs, general equipment maintenance, equipment operations, painting, custodial related tasks, sign maintenance, lighting, general carpentry, snow management, high water management, and other assignments delegated by the proper authority
- Performs complementary customer service functions consistent with Airport Customer Service Standards
- Performs any other duty or assignment delegated by proper the authority
Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
- Must be able to demonstrate comprehension of yearly FAA, TSA, and SARAA required training
- Must be able to pass a (10-year) background and criminal investigation in order to be issued an Airport Identification Badge
- Must possess a valid PA driver’s license with a good driving history or must be able to obtain a PA license within 30 days of hire date
- Must be able to retain and follow spoken and written instructions
- Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, spoken, or diagram form
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus and distinguish the full visual color spectrum
- Must be willing and able to use the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) related to his or her daily assignment
- Must be able to work in extreme outside weather conditions and possible long hours as well as around moving mechanical parts, in precarious places, and with the risk of electrical shock and vibration
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language
- Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, FAA tower operators, other departments, contractors, and consultants
- Must be able to use ground and maintenance radio communication equipment requiring correct terminology and the ability to speak clearly and concisely
- Must have basic math skills
- Basic computer skills preferred
