The City of Lenexa Parks and Recreation department is currently seeking motivated individuals to work in our Turf division as a Grounds Maintenance Worker. The ideal candidate has prior experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping.

Position Summary
The Grounds Maintenance Worker position works in the Turf Division under the direction of the Parks Turf Supervisor and assists with the general maintenance of City grounds, including the operation of major equipment. Work is generally under direct supervision and is reviewed by visual inspection.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
- Cares for established turf by mowing, trimming, edging and other turf maintenance practices. Operates City vehicles, powered equipment and hand tools.
- Mixes and sprays or spreads fertilizers and pesticides onto turf, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
- May lead seasonal workers, overseeing and coordinating work.
- Must be available to be on call as needed, with overtime, weekend and holiday work required.
- Drives City and/or personal vehicle to perform essential functions of position.
Qualifications
Minimum: High school diploma or G.E.D. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must complete required IS-100 and IS-700 training within three months of employment.
Desired: One year of work experience in grounds maintenance or related field; a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with airbrakes endorsement; Kansas Pesticide Applicator license, category 3B.
Environmental and Physical Factors
This position requires the ability to walk/climb over difficult and uneven terrain; the ability to crawl, stoop, bend, twist and maintain balance; the ability to lift products weighing 50 lbs. from floor to waist frequently; the ability and strength to push/pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; hear warning alarms and radio transmissions, etc. routinely; and visual acuity to inspect work. This position requires the ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions; the ability to tolerate exposure to pollen, traffic and machine exhaust; and routine exposure to hazardous chemicals, paints and caustic cleaning supplies, as well as possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens and human bacteria.
Salary/Compensation and Benefits
The hiring range for this position is $19.32 to $21.11 per hour.
