Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, benefited Classified 5 level position. Starting wage range: $18.05 - $20.41/hourly, depending upon experience.

Job Summary: Core responsibilities of this position include:

The Grill Cook (AM Shift) is a full-time, benefited position, typically working 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends required. In addition, some holidays and special events may be required, especially during peak seasons and campus gatherings. This position plays a crucial role in supporting Dining Services' daily operations by preparing, cooking, and serving food to specification, maintaining sanitary and organized workspaces, and providing excellent customer service. The Grill Cook must be adaptable and able to work in a dynamic environment with a strong emphasis on teamwork, creativity, and guest interaction.

As a Dining Services Cook, Grill (AM SHIFT), your role encompasses a range of responsibilities vital to the breakfast service at LCCC. Your primary objective is to ensure the provision of a diverse and flavorful breakfast menu for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This involves meticulously preparing and serving breakfast items like made-to-order omelets, breakfast burritos, and hamburgers with attention to taste, presentation, and quality. Additionally, you'll play a key role in menu development, contributing innovative recipes and creative ideas to keep the grill line fresh and exciting. Interacting warmly with guests and maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and storage areas are crucial aspects of your role. Your proactive approach to professional development ensures you stay abreast of trends and solutions in higher education food services. Moreover, you'll collaborate closely with your culinary team to uphold the efficiency and vibrancy of Dining Services, ensuring smooth opening and closure procedures while accommodating other tasks as needed to meet contemporary institutional demands.

• Craft made-to-order omelets, breakfast burritos, hamburgers, and other morning delights.
• Guarantee that the breakfast grill line is fully operational prior to opening, and promptly deliver all breakfast selections to the Emporium by 7:30 a.m.
• Uphold high standards of flavor, presentation, and quality in food preparation.
• Adhere strictly to safety and food handling protocols to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Physical/Mental Demands: 

To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to:

• Maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors
• Work in an industrial kitchen setting including but not limited to working with/on industrial cooking equipment, sharp objects, in confined spaces, complex machines, slippery surfaces, and chemicals; appropriate safety precautions, equipment, and procedures must be utilized at all times
• Exposure to potential hazardous materials, chemicals, and flammable materials; appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) must be utilized
• Follow OSHA, regulations, and college safety practices and procedures at all times
• May be required to climb ladders, maneuver in confined spaces, squat, crawl, bend, twist, kneel, sit, stand, and extend arms over head
• Comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
• Work a variable work schedule may be required including long workdays, evenings, weekends and response to emergencies as needed

• Requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Highschool Diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Two years of experience food service industry
• Ability to work flexible hours and/or extended hours as may be needed

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Associate degree in Food Service Management, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Hotel/Restaurant Management, or related field; Culinary Certifications, or a combination of four years of training and years of experience directly related to managing a food service operation
• Two years of experience in food service as a Grill Cook or equivalent
