About the Program and Position:
The Grant Writer will scan for new funding opportunities to spur the growth of existing services or to support new program development. Cayuga Centers has programs in Upstate New York, New York City, Delaware, Pittsburgh, PA, and Southeast Florida.
Reporting to the Grants Specialist, the Grant Writer will be responsible for writing and sending grant applications and Letters of Intent (LOI). In coordination with the Grants Specialist and administrative and program leadership, this person will assess program and agency needs and identify and pursue financial resources to meet those needs. Additionally, this person will work closely with agency leadership to pursue areas of strategy growth through program replication in new areas or new program development to meet the needs of an established community.
Schedule: Exempt
Regular hours are Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5 pm. Must be flexible around submission deadlines and program needs
How do you get to use your skills…..
Research funding opportunities and identify those that are potentially a good fit for supporting Cayuga Centers’ programs and strategic growth;
Provide concise information used to determine the benefit of pursuing new opportunities
Stay informed of emerging trends in child welfare on a local, state, and national level, as well as various research-informed and evidence-based models being used throughout the country
Write high-quality grant proposal narratives, applications, and supporting documents
Partner with program directors and senior management team to learn about emerging needs and be able to translate them into a strong written narrative;
Manage all deadlines and workflows for LOIs, grant applications, and reports including internal deadlines for collection of information from other staff, ensuring on-time submission and a high rate of successful funding requests;
Attend bidder’s conferences and ability to travel to meet with needed stakeholders
Monitor the status and outcomes of various proposals/projects and report back to agency leadership
Secure feedback from funding sources to help ensure continuous quality improvement
Brief the appropriate staff following successful proposals and assist in program start-up efforts, as needed
Assist programs in gaining or maintaining various certifications/designations

Required Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in related field required; Master’s degree in related field preferred
Excellent writing skills
Successful track record in grant cultivation and in stewarding grant proposals through the entire grant application and submittal process
Ability to work with executive leadership, program staff, and finance to conceptualize and develop compelling, logical, and clear grant proposals, supporting materials and reports;
Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and to meet deadlines
Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and external stakeholders.
This person has strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to meet tight deadlines
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
Physical Requirements:
Word processing: Including responding to e-mails, composing letters, completing computerized documentation, transcribing minutes for meetings: This involves sitting at a computer for a minimum of 5 hours and could be up to 7 hours a day depending on program needs.
Lifting of Agency file books - weighing approximately 6-8 lbs. each - 5-inch binders
Ability to lift 50 lbs
Completing paperwork -Such as copying, stapling
Answering phones, processing mail, filing, lifting packages
Ability to travel to all program sites
