Job Summary
The Grants and Contracts Officer (GCO) will be a part of the Core Team at the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute (CVRTI) at the University of Utah Health Sciences Campus. The CVRTI integrates professors and trainees across academic departments to nucleate a campus wide cell-to-bedside approach in cardiovascular education and research and includes 18 investigator faculty members with independent laboratories.
The GCO will be responsible for assisting with pre- and post-award grants management. This position will manage the Institute's training grants (currently three training grants). This position will also assist investigators by performing administrative and technical functions associated with pre-award grant submissions. The grants administrator also serves as a liaison to the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP), Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), the Office of the Vice President and Research, and other campus entities as necessary.
Strong communication and organizational skills are necessary as is an ability to remain positive in interactions with CVRTI and larger University of Utah faculty and staff.
Responsibilities
- Provides post-award support of the Institute's training grants (currently 3)
- With basic oversight from a supervisor, completes basic award administration for activities including award set-up, modification, and maintenance.
- Provides basic support for formal financial reports to external sponsors, PI, internal/external audits.
- Provides support for Award review/tracking. Completes project-related A/P and A/R activities for basic contracts. Basic understanding of budget categories and can input/assist in those reporting activities.
- Provides basic support for activity tracking administrative tasks.
- Work with colleagues and manager to complete and track assignments.
- Effectively interface with internal and external professionals.
- Problem-solving through established policies and procedures, leveraging prior experiences and judgment to analyze issues as they arise. While most solutions follow standard practices, the role occasionally requires moderate innovation and creativity to adapt procedures to unique situations.
- Increasing specialized knowledge in area of assignment.
- Serves as a liaison between the P.I. or his/her support staff and other University departments throughout the period of the grant or contract.
