POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for aiding the Senior Accountants with financial information processing and reporting, including, but not limited to, accounting tasks and reconciliations for day-to-day, monthly, quarterly, and year-end activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)
- Update and maintain accounting journals, ledgers, and other records detailing financial business transactions (i.e., disbursements, expense vouchers, receipts, etc.).
- Enters data into computer systems using defined computer programs.
- Prepares and verifies requisitions, invoices, complex journal entries, or other transaction documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Determines if funds are available for expenditures or requisitions and posts to proper accounts.
- Assists with monitoring credit card charges, payment discrepancies, refunds, returns, and miscellaneous charges.
- Assists with the processing of functional and benefits expense allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed asset deprecation, and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries, if necessary.
- Assists with verification of inventories, real property, and equipment, and records description, value, location, and other information.
- Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, employer's benefit costs, accruals and prepaid expenses, and monthly General Ledger reconciliation as required.
- Maintain supporting documentation for accounting entries to support internal and external audits
- Assists in preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, amortization and depreciation schedules, and other financial reports.
- Assists in preparing entries and reconciliations for month-end and annual closing to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.

- Attend required meetings and training when needed.

Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, Executives, customers, and outside vendor/service providers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position sedentary, primarily sitting/lifting a maximum of 25 pounds. Physical factors include constant sitting, use of hearing, near/midrange/far vision, color/field of vision, typing, frequent standing, walking and occasional carrying/lifting, reaching, depth perception, travel, and bending. Working conditions include occasional exposure to weather, extreme heat/cold, wet/humidity, noise, and air quality. Potential hazards include constant computer and equipment use.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Associate's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration required or will accept three years combination of education and work experience in the accounting field in lieu of degree. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience: One year of work experience in an accounting-related field required in addition to the above stated education requirements.
Certification/License: Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of standard accounting practices, including applicable GAAP (General Accepted Accounting Principles), Federal, State, and Tribal regulations, policies, and procedures required. Must be able to use word processing, spreadsheet, database software, and computer-based accounting systems. Knowledge of AS400, JD Edwards, Microsoft Office Suite, inventory, gas station, and point-of-sale software preferred. Working knowledge and ability to use office machines such as calculator, copier, fax, printer, scanner, and computer required. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills. Must maintain confidentiality. Native American preferred.
