Description
IMMEDIATE VACANICES:
Permanent Full-Time - Wailuku
Supervises the maintenance of golf greens, tees, fairways, roughs, sand traps and other features of the golf course and clubhouse, and construction of golf greens; determines needs, schedules, assigns and monitors irrigation of the golf course; and performs other related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This class differs from that of Golf Course Groundskeeper II in that the Golf Course Maintenance Supervisor supervises the maintenance of golf greens, tees, fairways and clubhouse, and construction of golf greens as a regular assignment; whereas the Golf Course Groundskeeper II supervises and participates in the care and maintenance of golf course greens, tees and fairways.

Supervises the maintenance of golf greens, tees, fairways, hazards, paths and other areas of the course, cleaning of clubhouse and locker room other than concession areas; supervises the construction of new greens; inspects condition of greens and supervises the moving of holes or recommends the construction of new greens; establishes work, fertilizing, watering and top-dressing schedules; inspects, determines need for and supervises sodding, seeding, watering and mowing; determines and supervises the marking off of areas ("out of play") including ground under repair, cart paths for tournament and regular play, etc.; requisitions supplies, tools and equipment; inspects tools and equipment and determines necessity for maintenance and replacement, and prepares requests accordingly; keeps records and prepares work, equipment and other reports; regularly relieves the Golf Course Superintendent; may serve as starter.
Minimum Qualification RequirementsTraining and Experience: (1) Graduation from high school and four years of grounds maintenance experience, one year of which shall have involved the maintenance of golf greens and fairways and one year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity; or (2) any equivalent combination of training and experience.
License Requirement: possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's Iicense (Type 3).
Knowledge of: standard methods, practices, tools and equipment used in developing and maintaining greens and fairways on a golf course; tees and special grasses used on golf courses; turf diseases and chemicals used to control them; golf rules and practices as they apply to the proper maintenance of greens and fairways; principles and practices of supervision.
Ability to: plan, lay out, assign and review the work of others; mix chemicals to control turf diseases; determine and apply correct amount of fertilizer; keep records; deal tactfully and effectively with the public and employees; give and follow oral and written instructions.
