About the Job
We are a leading global commodity trading company looking for a Corporate Controller based in Fairfield County, CT.
The Corporate Controller is responsible for directing and developing the company’s accounting principles, practices,
procedures, and initiatives as well as overseeing the preparation of the company’s timely and accurate internal and
external reporting. This role is responsible for maintaining an in-depth and up to date knowledge and understanding of
international accounting principles. The Corporate Controller is responsible for managing a global team of direct and
indirect reports.
Responsibilities:
• Oversees the maintenance of financial records globally and examines and analyzes the company’s accounting
records, financial statements, and/or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance
to reporting and procedural standards.
• Leads the company’s financial reporting processes, ensuring the timeliness, accuracy, and integrity of all
disclosed financial information. This includes leading the preparation and review of consolidated financial
statements, footnote disclosures, operating metrics, MD&A (monthly, quarterly, and annually).
• Manages the review of the Company’s financial statement consolidation, including intercompany accounts and
eliminations. Works with the accounting teams to resolve identified issues.
• Determines accounting and tax implications for all material business decisions across multiple companies and
jurisdictions.
• Ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded.
• Evaluates existing accounting functions and processes and collaborates with key team members across the
organization to apply best practices and establish globally consistent processes, implement improvements, and
significantly shorten the monthly closing process.
• Reviews and ensures application of appropriate internal controls, and financial procedures.
• Responsible for the development and dissemination of accounting policies, processes, and procedures to ensure
compliance and consistency of accounting policy as deemed appropriate by the executive leadership team.
• Manages financial planning and analysis activities; Supervise the creation of reports and implementation of tools
for budgeting and forecasting.
• Ensures the proper functioning of all systems, databases, and financial software, ensuring regular maintenance
and backup of all accounting and operating systems.
• Oversees the month-end close process, constantly reviewing procedures while eliminating inefficiencies.
• Serve as the senior key point of contact for external auditors; Manage preparation and support of all external
audits.
• Mentors and develops the team, managing work allocation, systems training, performance evaluations, and the
building of an effective and efficient team dynamic. Including setting the schedule for month-end closing
procedures and holding subordinates accountable for responsive, competent service and information to
management, employees, and external advisors.
• Develops and facilitates the annual budget process.
Requirements:
• A bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance.
• CPA required.
• MBA is preferred.
• Minimum 10+ Years of general accounting experience, with at least 5 years of managing a sizeable global team
and multiple entities.
• Experience in commodity trading industry.
• Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Expert knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, financial markets, banking, and the
analysis and reporting of financial data.
• Excellent working knowledge of technical accounting rules, regulatory rules, and related business processes.
• In-depth knowledge of existing and new IFRS accounting standards.
• Exceptional organizational skills, particularly in a fast-paced and highly autonomous environment.
• Nimble within a private entrepreneurial environment.
• High degree of integrity and strong ethical standards.
• An effective team leader who positively contributes to an inclusive and collaborative environment.
• Strong financial planning and analysis capabilities including forecasting and cash flow.
• Experience building, leading and managing a global team.
