Overview:The Mt. Laurel and Willingboro locations are only outpatient units, whereas the Special Test Unit (STU), located on the sixth floor in the main hospital is an outpatient and inpatient unit. All are run by the hospital largely to serve diagnostic and therapeutic needs of the Gastroenterology Division.
The most common gastroenterology procedures are upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. In the pulmonary suite (STU only), endoscopy of the airway procedures is performed, and are commonly called bronchoscopy.
Short Description:Assists the RNs and physicians with the procedures of the GI/Pulmonary Lab. Maintains equipment, including the cleaning of scopes. Implements best practices Always looks for new ways to improve.
- Assists with patient care as needed and directed by nursing and medical staff.
- The Preceptor acts as a peer role model, a teacher, and a social support for a new employee in a clinical setting.
- Assists orientees in the transition from dependence to independence in performing role responsibilities.
- In collaboration with the clinical leadership, the Preceptor has overall responsibility to onboard the orientee and accountability for the orientee.
- An alternate to the preceptor may be utilized when the preceptor is not available.
- Assists with Business Office Support duties and will be trained to EPIC applications and front desk registration & copay collection.
- Supports ordering and maintaining of supplies .
Experience Required:
1 year GI Technician experience required
Education Requirements:- High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
- American Heart Association BLS
Hours: Flexible
- Additional unit-specific qualifications may be required. Ability to learn Optime, Lawson and EPIC applications.
- The Preceptor is an individual who has a satisfactory performance evaluation and is willing to precept.
- The individual will complete a Cooper University Hospital Tech/Nurse Associate/Unit Secretary/Companion Preceptor Course during orientation.
