Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geostructural and Construction Engineering practice in our Oak Brook or Chicago, Illinois office. The position will apply engineering skills to projects involving site characterization; foundations; earth retaining structures; deep, soft soils; ground improvement; construction dewatering; dams and water containment structures; forensic investigations and litigation support; geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring; numerical analysis of stability and deformation; structures; and construction engineering while further developing the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Conducting geotechnical field investigations;
- Evaluation of geotechnical laboratory and field test data;
- Monitoring heavy civil construction projects;
- Performing and reviewing engineering calculations such as: capacity of shallow and deep foundations, settlement, slope stability, ground improvement, excavation support design and lateral earth pressures, construction dewatering and seepage; and liquefaction triggering;
- Dam and levee evaluations;
- Quantity takeoffs and construction estimating;
- Developing, installing, and managing instrumentation monitoring systems;
- Fieldwork associated with consulting, design, and construction services;
- Data analysis, including preparing maps, tables, and figures;
- Developing construction documents, including drawings and specifications;
- Preparation of calculation packages, technical reports, letters, memoranda, and proposals; and
- Based on your current level of experience, you may be asked to take on task-level or project management responsibilities, along with business development, and staff mentoring tasks.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering. (required)
- Advanced degree in the geotechnical engineering. (preferred)
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification. (preferred)
- At least 5 years of related experience, including geotechnical field studies, geotechnical and geostructural design, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
- Strong fundamentals in geotechnical engineering theory and practice. (required)
- Strong fundamentals in structural engineering theory. (preferred)
- Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
- Experience with geotechnical engineering software (e.g., SLIDE, GEOSTUDIO, PLAXIS, FLAC, LPILE, gINT, etc.) and/or numerical methods using spreadsheets. (required)
- Experience with design collaboration software (e.g. Bluebeam Studio), and operation of VDC/BIM software. (preferred)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related software; AutoCAD. (required)
- Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
- Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
