About the Job
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Conduct structural field investigations and analyze failures involving various structural, building envelope and construction-related problems
Determine the cause, origin and extent of structural failures, water intrusions, roof damage, construction defects and building system failures including roof, wall and glazing
Assignments may include water intrusion investigations, structural assessments, window and roof finish evaluations, code compliance investigations and vibration analysis
Analyze failures in buildings and other infrastructure systems by conducting site visits and applying engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards
Work with various construction materials including steel, wood, concrete, masonry and roofing
Conduct unbiased investigations for various types of clients
Prepare oral and written reports in layman's terms that document causes of failure, extent of loss and recommended remediation
Ability to support conclusions by appropriate testimony in legal proceedings
Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups
Responsible for retention and development of client relations
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
Position Requirements:
Minimum of BS in Structural Engineering
Minimum of eight (8) years of structural design and/or construction engineering experience
Experience with building envelope components
PE registration through testing required
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Public speaking experience a plus
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to climb ladders and inspect roofs
Able to ride in a swing stage
Ability to maneuver in and around buildings, in confined spaces and in attics
Ability to drive to site locations
Up to 30% travel
