Geotechnical Engineer - Department Leader

Award winning engineering firm is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to lead their expanding geotechnical section within the KY, WV, and IN area. This role involves a variety of responsibilities and offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects, including flood walls, levees, bank protection, and pumping stations.

Primary Duties of the Geotechnical Engineer:

• Develop geotechnical engineering designs, sketches, plans, specifications, and estimates
• Review design and construction submittals for compliance with codes, standards, project requirements, and contract documents
• Conduct slope stability, soil analysis, and other geotechnical engineering studies
• Communicate with both internal and external clients
• Perform technical analyses, prepare proposals and reports, and coordinate with designers and contractors
• Support the development of technical scopes of work and fee proposals
• Respond to RFPs related to geotechnical services
• Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures
• Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects
• Supervise a small team of professionals and technicians
• Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related field)
• Minimum of 10 years of experience
• PE certification
• Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
• Ability to prepare complete, concise, and organized engineering calculations and reports
• Knowledge of relevant structural design methods, codes, and standards
• Willingness to travel and assist with hydraulic structures inspection (up to 30% travel)
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Commitment to being an active participant in an employee-owned culture

Preferred:

• MSCE preferred
• Experience with dams, levees, hydraulic structures, railroad, and transportation infrastructure
• Knowledge of current technical standards (USACA, LRFD)
• Active participation in related professional societies (ASCE, USSD, ASDSO)
• Proficiency in geotechnical software (gINT, Slope/W, Seep/W, APILE, LPILE, GRLWeap, Settle3D)
• Ability to develop and execute designs using spreadsheets and MATHCAD
• Preference given to local candidates
