Geotechnical Engineer - Department Leader
Award winning engineering firm is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to lead their expanding geotechnical section within the KY, WV, and IN area. This role involves a variety of responsibilities and offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects, including flood walls, levees, bank protection, and pumping stations.
Primary Duties of the Geotechnical Engineer:
- Develop geotechnical engineering designs, sketches, plans, specifications, and estimates
- Review design and construction submittals for compliance with codes, standards, project requirements, and contract documents
- Conduct slope stability, soil analysis, and other geotechnical engineering studies
- Communicate with both internal and external clients
- Perform technical analyses, prepare proposals and reports, and coordinate with designers and contractors
- Support the development of technical scopes of work and fee proposals
- Respond to RFPs related to geotechnical services
- Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures
- Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects
- Supervise a small team of professionals and technicians
- Perform other duties as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related field)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience
- PE certification
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
- Ability to prepare complete, concise, and organized engineering calculations and reports
- Knowledge of relevant structural design methods, codes, and standards
- Willingness to travel and assist with hydraulic structures inspection (up to 30% travel)
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to being an active participant in an employee-owned culture
Preferred:
- MSCE preferred
- Experience with dams, levees, hydraulic structures, railroad, and transportation infrastructure
- Knowledge of current technical standards (USACA, LRFD)
- Active participation in related professional societies (ASCE, USSD, ASDSO)
- Proficiency in geotechnical software (gINT, Slope/W, Seep/W, APILE, LPILE, GRLWeap, Settle3D)
- Ability to develop and execute designs using spreadsheets and MATHCAD
- Preference given to local candidates
