Mindbank Consulting Group has an immediate need for Mid-Senior GIS Analyst . This position is in Falls Church, Virginia, and is hybrid (mandatory M, T, and every other W onsite). Your work will support environmental-centric GIS programs for a large federal agency - it's a really neat project! Salary range is up to ~$90K and is based on each candidate’s professional experience and skills.
Candidates must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident; you will complete a federal background investigation before starting work. (A current Public Trust is preferred.)
GIS Analyst Responsibilities:
· Provide GIS technical support, knowledge and recommendations that are consistent with Federal policies, procedures, regulations, and statutes as they relate to technology.
· Provide mapping support to lead offices with curating spatial data across the range of a species to ensure shared interpretation.
· Coordinate across offices on appropriate scale for mapping shared species.
· Provide quality assurance / quality control on range projects consistent with developed SOPs and refine SOPs based on feedback from project participants.
· Identify and help create/collect spatial data objects/layers as needed to benefit multiple species in range mapping efforts.
· Support revision of data standards and procedures for the species range maps in, including meta-data management and quality control and quality assurance review protocols.
· Coordinate across offices, under the supervision of staff, on appropriate scale for mapping shared species.
· Support management in making recommendations for capturing current range data in client’s system.
· Assist in projects that are implementing the SRP protocols to inform and further refine the range delineation.
· Provide support in development of recommendations and implementation of approved to host the new or revised species range maps.
· Support the project’s effort to continue a collaborative network of managers and users to implement the SOP and develop species range maps for species for which this group is responsible.
· Assist in coordination and engagement work with other Federal agencies, States, nongovernmental organizations, and other interested parties in sharing data that inform species range delineations.
· Participate as needed in working groups and assist in developing additional or revise existing standard operating protocols or guidance to address range map requirements, processes, or procedures; this could include developing additional methodologies and conducting spatial analyses on individual or groups of species, including but not limited to connectivity, prioritization, climate change (using species distribution models), and landcover modeling and change analyses.
GIS Analyst Qualifications : You must already have the following experiences and skills to be considered for this position. Please note that experience must be paid, professional in nature. I am unable to consider academic work in lieu of professional experience.
· Five (5) or more years of paid, professional experience with geographical information systems (GIS) and a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
· Paid, professional experience with R, Shiny, workflows, big data, GIS, spatial data management and manipulation and data modeling.
· Paid, professional experience with ArcGIS, ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcInfo, FME Desktop, ArcDesktop, SQL, Python, and Microsoft Office suite.
· Proven experience managing a GIS-based data system.
· Skill in communicating effectively (orally and in writing).
· Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with multiple partners, working teams, and organizations.
· Proven project management abilities, including experience in managing complex tasks, including short-term and long-term planning, goal and policy setting, and monitoring accomplishments.
· Biological training and/or knowledge is not required but is preferred. (This could be field work you’ve done, working with biologists in the lab and/or field, etc.)
