Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking an entry-level Geologist to join our Remediation team in our Latham, New York office. The successful candidate will work on an established project site in New York’s Capitol Region.
This is a project specific field-based role comprising approximately 90% field work and 10% office-based work. This position requires excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, and a positive attitude. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a project team
Responsibilities include conducting full-time daily inspections of facility operations at a construction and demolition landfill and monitor operations for compliance with applicable NYSDEC regulations and permits. Specific duties include:
- Observe daily facility operations during landfill operating hours.
- Inspect materials being disposed for acceptability as permitted C&D waste.
- Monitor waste placement and daily cover operations and leachate collection control measures.
- Monitor operations for effectiveness of dust control measures and document and notify the landfill operator if and when there is evidence of unacceptable airborne dust emissions.
- Maintain daily field notes to include general observations of activities and conditions on site and document any discussions with facility personnel.
- Conduct daily odor inspections of neighborhoods surrounding the landfill and send a written log of each odor inspection and results to the NYSDEC and the landfill operator.
- Prepare daily facility inspection reports and distribute to NYSDEC.
- Conduct follow-up inspections of any permit violations and prepare associated inspection reports to ensure corrective actions are promptly implemented.
- Support NYSDEC in monitoring new cell construction activities.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA 10 General Industry and Construction training.
- OSHA 40 HAZWOPER training.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
