Your Opportunity
Herrera is seeking a Seattle employee to support regional hazardous waste and mine waste investigation and remediation projects. This position is a project support position executing work for professional services related to cleanup and/or containment of waste; CERCLA (Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act) and RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) compliance; performing sampling and analysis of soil, groundwater, and waste materials; conducting environmental monitoring; preparing written reports; and interacting with clients, contractors, and other consultants.
Working for public sector and private clients, the successful candidate will work with multi-disciplinary project teams to support complex projects and complete a variety of tasks using advanced problem solving, collaboration, and team leadership skills.
The successful candidate will thrive in a team environment and work closely with our staff in Washington, Oregon, Montana, and Wyoming.
The position will require work-from-office/home, as well as periodic field work for site investigation work and groundwater monitoring throughout the year, and occasional construction oversight during the summers.
In this role we will count on you to:
- Provide project consulting support on multi-disciplinary, complex project teams
- Provide on-site environmental monitoring, sampling, and data collection
- Assist with business development activities including client relations, marketing pursuits, project proposals, and statements of work
- Maintain an active role and visibility within local, regional, and/or national professional associations and organizations
Other duties you will be responsible for:
- Help complete Remedial Investigation / Feasibility Studies (RI/FS)
- Help prepare Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs) and Health and Safety Plans (HASPs)
- Assist with Phase II Environmental Site Assessments
- Assist with environmental drilling investigations, creating soil boring logs, groundwater contour maps, and report writing in the office
- Collect groundwater samples, calibrate, and use field meters during groundwater and stormwater sampling (e.g., YSI multi-meters for pH, dissolved oxygen, specific conductivity, turbidity, and temperature)
- Coordinate with the analytical laboratory to order sample collection containers, complete sample chain of custody forms, and package and deliver samples to the lab
- Manage field data using spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel) and creating data summary tables
- Coordinate with drillers and other subconsultants for field investigations
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Experience, & Licensure/Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental science, hydrogeology, or civil or environmental engineering; master’s degree a plus
- 5 years of professional experience
- Experience preparing written reports, and interacting with clients, contractors, and other consultants
- Experience with sampling and analysis of soil, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor
- Site remediation experience and oversight of remedial excavation work
- Experience using field meters, mobile GPS units, and groundwater sampling equipment
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Collaborator and team builder with capacity to work with staff from diverse technical disciplines
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Dedication to health and safety practices when working in the field
- Must be a highly motivated self-starter
- Experience with AutoCAD / Civil3D / or GIS a plus

- This position is salaried and exempt from overtime; the annual salary ranges are:
- Engineer III: $90,200 - $111,000
- Engineer IV: $104,000- $145,500
- Scientist III: $81,400 - $102,200
- Scientist IV: $95,164 - $136,652
- Level and salary are determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to position, years of experience, type/relevance of experience, skillset, and fit for the role
