About the Role:
U.S. Pipe is seeking a Generalist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for advising and training managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee grievances.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Provides administrative support for Union and Labor relations (Monthly meetings contractual reports (OT Roster, Seniority roster, Job Bid Postings, Job Bid Awards, Disciplinary action form completion, etc.).
- Uses surveys, interviews, and other studies to conduct research regarding policies, compensation, and other employment issues, then after analyzing the information, makes recommendations on changes to the Plant’s Manager.
- Provides guidance on common labor relations issues such as contract interpretation, job transfers, shift change assignments, seasonal employees, layoffs, unfair labor practice charges, and the grievance procedure.
- Stays abreast of changing laws, regulations and procedures pertaining to labor and employee relations standards and related best practices and regulatory compliance requirements; communicates business implications and impact to all key stakeholders.
- Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and team members relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc. and refers more complex questions to Plant manager or appropriate senior-level staff.
- Updates and maintains grievance logs, schedules meetings, ensures timely responses are provided.
- Works with leadership to ensure that disciplinary actions are created and executed consistently as required.
- Coordinates Job Bid Process (Openings/Awards/Posting/communication/meeting) and reviews with the Union prior to posting.
- Updates and maintains headcount reports relative to management need, Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) compliance and others.
- Conducts and/or assists in supervisory training on labor relations matters.
- Attends staff meetings, supervisor meetings, and departmental meetings.
- Assists as needed in grievance meetings at each level as well as any internal investigations as they arise.
- Implements and maintains company programs, enforcement of policies and procedures, Company Handbook, Critical Safety Rules, Plant Conduct Rules, and Guidelines.
- Provides training for supervisors, managers, and employees on CBA's and other employment related topics.
- Facilitates Front-Line Leader training, Employment Law, as well as Labor Relations Trainer.
- Attends staff, departmental meetings as well as staffing and manning as needed.
- Provides recruitment support for all hourly openings. Interviews, plant tours, applicant testing etc.
- Works closely with Plant Manager to understand job bidding needs and any open positions for recruitment as well as reports all open positions on plant TO Reports on a weekly basis.
- Develops job postings and posts hourly positions on the ATS or other platforms, job boards and the state workforce site.
- Oversees and manages employee referral program for hourly and salaried roles.
- Sources candidates using a variety of search methods to build a robust candidate pipeline.
- Screens candidates by reviewing resumes and job applications and performing phone screenings.
- Coordinates virtual and on-site interviews and works with hiring managers and management team on best candidates.
- Organizes and facilitates plant tours along with safety for new hire candidates.
- Facilitates the offer process in the ATS by extending and creating offer letter, obtaining the necessary approvals, and extending the offers to prospective employees.
- Performs reference checks and coordinates with corporate resources on preemployment process (background check, physical, drug screen, etc.).
- Assists with new hire orientation as needed.
- Works to maintain correct processes and protocols for PCN approvals and submittals.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, or Industrial Relations preferred.
- HR Certification preferred.
- 3-5 yrs. experience in Human Resources, inclusive of fast-paced, heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
- Proven, self-directed, influencer and facilitator skills are required.
- Team player focused on the success of the team as a whole.
- Strong foundational knowledge on HR subjects such as benefits, compensation, performance management, employment compliance knowledge, succession planning, employee retention, recruiting, team building, and employee relations is desired.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Have a demonstrated ability to organize and execute assigned projects.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while meeting all agreed upon deadlines.
- Possesses a strong sense of urgency in meeting internal and external customer needs.
- Strong knowledge of Family Medical Act, EEOC, ADA, AAP, and other related federal, state, and local labor laws is required
- Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint software.
