JOB DESCRIPTION - Full Service General Manager Job Description
Position Objective:
To ensure operational excellence, effective leadership, and complete responsibility for our restaurant.
Leadership Characteristics:
- Manages and leads with passion, drive and awareness. Exudes positive energy, approachable, likable, and sets the pace for the restaurant staff.
- Accepts feedback well and makes necessary adjustments quickly.
- Communicates effectively with all staff members and demonstrates strong leadership skills, provides solutions and guidance to staff members and initiates team work
- Supportive, loyal, and objective of company rules.
- Ensures company policies are implemented & communicated to staff.
Scheduling & Time Management:
- GM oversees the schedule and must approve before posting.
- Scheduling decisions are strategic, well thought out, and based on what is best for the business.
- GM takes into consideration restaurant history, holidays, time of year, guest count, etc.
- It is mandatory that the GM is present during the busiest shifts and that when the GM is not present the restaurant is running great. In order to have full awareness of the restaurant it is vital that the GM have at least 1 closing shift per week and that the schedule includes management overlap.
Development of Staff Members:
- The General Manager spends the appropriate amount of time developing his/her team by identifying strengths and weaknesses, giving daily and weekly feedback as well as an action plan every 90 days for the management team.
- Follow up is key in getting results out of your staff. Praise in public and critique behind the scenes.
- Present for disciplinary action and terminations
- Works with chefs/kitchen managers to ensure quality of food and beverages are executed to location standards. Chef’s/
- Kitchen Managers should be included in manager meetings and feel a part of the team.
- Directs weekly Manager meetings to discuss operations, staffing issues, service, product quality, upcoming events, etc.
- Responsible for implementation of staff training and follow up, utilizes training systems in the restaurant and makes applicable updates and suggestions when necessary
- GM gives staff members feedback and guidance therefore staff members always know the status of their performance
- Ensures all members of the restaurant team work in a safe, professional and positive work environment and escalates employee relations issues to the Director of Operations and/or Human Resources when necessary.
Admin/Time Management
- The GM always knows the appropriate amount of time and time of day that should be spent on admin duties. The floor is always a priority over admin. duties
- GM Takes responsibility for everything that happens in the restaurant. Knowledgeable in all facets of the restaurant from.
- Infinity, Ctuit, TOAST, HR, menu items, service standards, financials and facilities.
- Understands all systems at a high level.
- Ensures facility and equipment are in perfect working condition.
- Performs administrative duties including processing of new hire, accounting, termination paperwork, payroll, etc.
- Time management to spend the appropriate amount of time and the appropriate time of day completing admin duties
- Ensures the restaurant operates in compliance with labor laws, health and safety guidelines.
- Ensures all members of the restaurant team work in a safe, professional and positive work environment.
- Operates restaurant in accordance with financial budget and meets profitability target
