Job DescriptionPosition Overview:
The General Manager (GM) of our muscle car build shop will be responsible for overseeing all daily operations, ensuring exceptional build quality, and driving business growth. This individual will lead a team of skilled technicians and staff, manage budgets, uphold safety and quality standards, and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and partners. The GM will play a critical role in aligning the shop’s operations with its vision for excellence in high-performance muscle car builds and customer satisfaction.
This GM position is suited to someone with a passion for muscle cars and custom builds, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to quality and growth. The ideal candidate will have both technical expertise and the managerial skills needed to take our shop to the next level.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Management
• Oversee and manage all shop activities, including project estimating and planning, workflow, and scheduling, to ensure efficient and timely project delivery.
• Implement and maintain quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) standards in all build processes.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
2. Team Leadership
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technicians, builders, and support staff, promoting a culture of accountability, teamwork, and high performance.
• Conduct regular training and skills development for staff to keep up with industry advancements.
• Manage recruitment, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions, with support from HR.
3. Customer Relations
• Engage with clients to understand their project goals, specifications, and preferences, ensuring a high level of satisfaction from project initiation through delivery.
• Provide regular updates to clients on project progress and address any concerns or adjustments as needed.
• Handle customer feedback post-project to continually improve service quality.
4. Financial Management
• Develop, monitor, and manage budgets for labor, materials, inventory and supply management, and overhead costs to meet financial targets.
• Evaluate and manage supplier and vendor relationships and ordering to ensure cost-effectiveness and quality in parts and materials.
• Prepare regular financial and operational reports for senior management, including cost analysis and profit margins.
5. Strategic Growth & Innovation
• Work closely with the CEO to identify growth opportunities, including new service offerings, client segments, or marketing initiatives.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance build processes, quality, and customer satisfaction.
• Stay updated on industry trends, technology advancements, and regulatory requirements to keep the shop at the forefront of the muscle car industry.
6. Quality Assurance and Safety Compliance
• Ensure all builds meet rigorous QA/QC standards for performance, safety, and appearance.
• Conduct routine safety audits, and ensure the team adheres to safety protocols and best practices.
QualificationsQualifications:
• Proven experience in an automotive or specialty vehicle management role, ideally within a restoration or custom build shop.
• Strong technical knowledge of automotive systems, mechanics, and custom build processes.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience managing and motivating skilled trades teams.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills, with a commitment to delivering exceptional client experiences.
• Strong financial acumen with experience in budget management and cost control.
• Knowledge of industry safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with muscle cars, classic cars, or high-performance vehicles.
• Certification in automotive management, quality control, or related field.
Working Conditions:
• This role requires regular presence in the shop environment, with some administrative duties.
• Occasional weekend or evening work may be required, depending on project deadlines.
