Description:
An exciting opportunity to work with the Union League of Philadelphia team, the premier city club in the USA. We are seeking a hospitality professional to achieve the highest level of service and ambiance at The Bungalow.
The Bungalow, located in Stone Harbor, NJ, is the League’s seasonal BYOB private dining room for members only. The first satellite facility for the League, The Bungalow is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year and offers members a unique venue for casual, relaxed, outdoor dining.
The ideal candidate for this position will oversee the a la carte dining operations team and collaborate closely with the kitchen staff to ensure seamless service and exceptional quality .The GM needs to be a self-motivated problem solver with the ability to anticipate member needs. A key requirement of this role is the capability to uncover and resolve issues before they become problems. This should be achieved through strong leadership of the team and an adherence to the financial guidelines set.
Responsibilities:
Member Service:
- Creates an ambiance that is balanced and in line with the highest form of food and member service.
- Delivers the very best service experience to our members and guests.
- Responds to member requests and inquiries in a timely manner.
- Works with the Marketing team to take advantage of all opportunities to market the dining room to our members.
- Responsible for monthly Banner content, the quarterly e-newsletter, and annual SWOT analysis.
- Reviews surveys and member feedback. Presents the data to staff and discusses end of season feedback.
- Follows and enforces Employee Handbook policies and League House By-Laws.
Administrative:
- Has strong communication skills and works well cross-departmentally/cross-property with key departments. This includes: Accounting, Marketing & Human Resources
- Utilizes the League’s technology to better understand our members and guests. Maximizes the functions in the following programs: Jonas, Accubar, Xtrachef, Qlik, Beverage Metrics, SevenRooms, and ADP.
- Manages all aspects of beverage service to include selection, ordering and inventory.
- Monitors food and beverage sales and expenses to maximize efficiency. Plans and implements budgets with the Chef de Cuisine of The Bungalow.
- Manages the P&L statements and reacts with impactful strategies to ensure the appropriate level of revenue and profitability.
- Sets and attends the monthly Companion Amenity committee meetings.
- Compares menu pricing within the industry and across our League locations.
- Responsible for licenses within the clubhouse(ie. TIPS certification)
Operations:
- Hires, onboards, and trains front and back of house staff in keeping with the League’s standards of excellence.
- Directly manages employees to include the Dining Room Manager and front of house staff. Inputs weekly gratuities and acts as on-site HR liaison for front of the house.
- Coaches and takes corrective actions with staff and members. Communicates actions to the General Manager of the League House and HR Director when necessary.
- Be the lead on all Capital Improvements, pull permits when necessary, and oversee that everything is completed in allotted time.
- Ensures full compliance with The Bungalow’s SOPs, policies and service standards, which are in line with the Union League standard. Re-writes and trains on SOPs and service standards when needed.
- Works closely with the Chef to ensure a good working relationship between front and back of house.
- Acts as the League’s liaison to provide proper communication to all service team members about upcoming events or changes.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Requirements:
- 3-5 years of food and beverage experience, private club experience preferred
- 1-2 years of management experience
- Self-directed and proactive
- Work well with other employees, including chefs and dining staff
- Even-tempered
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Wine and beverage knowledge; Sommelier certification a plus
- Flexible work schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience with or ability to learn JONAS, Beverage Metrics, Outlook 365, and ADP
Hours:
- Work schedule will include nights, weekends, and holidays
- Mandatory dates: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day Weekend
- Please note: Other Mandatory Dates may occur
