General Manager - Machining Shop

Judge Direct Placement is seeking a General Manager for our client’s family-owned bushings manufacturing, distribution, and machining shop located in Chicago, IL. In this role you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of in-house operations, ensuring the shop runs smoothly and efficiently. You will wear many hats - managing staff, improving processes, maintaining high-quality standards, and driving profitability. Your leadership will be crucial in fostering a positive workplace culture and achieving our strategic goals. The ideal candidate will have solid knowledge of systems as it interconnects with the clients’ technology, an understanding of how the products move in/out of the building, and have experience overseeing multiple departments such as warehousing, human resources, production, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management:
- Oversee and lead the entire operations team, including customer service, production, warehouse, human resources, and accounting.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment.
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration among team members.
Operational Management:
- Manage day-to-day operations, ensuring smooth and efficient workflow.
- Develop and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and quality.
- Ensure seamless operations across departments
Quality Assurance:
- Oversee quality control processes to ensure all products meet or exceed customer specifications.
- Implement and maintain ISO9001 standards or other relevant quality certifications.
Financial Management:
- Partner with company accountant to develop and manage the budget.
- Monitor financial performance, including cost control, revenue generation, and profitability.
- Prepare financial reports and forecasts, i.e. end of month
Customer Relations:
- Maintain strong relationships with existing customers and seek new business opportunities.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of products to customers.
- Address customer inquiries, concerns, and feedback.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Promote a culture of safety
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or machining environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
