About the Job
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The general foreman manages a crew that constructs iron and steel structures, and is responsible for ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Manage and oversee the crew, coordinate work, and ensure projects are completed as per specifications.
- Plan, review drawings and specifications to determine the scope of work, including quantities, sizes, and locations of materials.
- Identify all tools required for tasks.
- Supervise craft employees and/or other contractors as required.
- Ensure safety rules and regulations are followed, including wearing required PPE. Document all violations, notify project management, recommend/implement corrective actions as required.
- Communicate with customers, management, and other employees.
- Prepare project management reports, track changes, and report to management.
- Develop and oversee work and safety procedures, and coordinate staff training.
- Ensure projects meet quality standards.
- Ensure projects are completed within budget by monitoring productivity of craft, efficient use of materials & equipment, and contractual performance of the project.
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule.
- Perform additional assignments per Supervisor's direction.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:
- Educational and experience include: Industry related technical, operations and safety training in Ironworker related course work or relevant community college programs.
- Minimum of fifteen years of Steel Construction experience.
- Practical experience in rigging and hoisting.
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction including knowledge of mechanical design, planning principles, and procedures.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and people skills, and be able to work well with others.
- Excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills essential.
- Basic computer skills with experience in MS Office and MS Project preferred.
