GAS TECHNICIAN IV/WELDER at City of Monroe

GAS TECHNICIAN IV/WELDER - Performs complex technical work in the fabrication and welding of natural gas facilities and appurtenances; does related work as required. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Gas System Manager. 

Requires thorough knowledge of methods used in welding, cutting, brazing, and heating of pipe and related fittings; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade; thorough knowledge of plastic fusion; general knowledge in the use of standard office equipment and associated software; general knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in the installation, replacement, maintenance and repair of natural gas lines; general knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual methods and tasks involved in the installation, maintenance, repair, location and replacement of gas lines and appurtenances; general knowledge of city engineering standards and specifications related to natural gas system installation methods and materials; skill in arc-welding; ability to supervise the work of others; ability to follow oral and written instructions; mechanical aptitude; manual dexterity; thoroughness, and dependability; ability to read utility maps to determine location of natural gas and electric lines; ability to read and understand printed located ticket directions and perform tasks requested; ability to read operation and service manuals and to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, contractors, and the general public; ability to pass American Petroleum Institute (API) 1104 welding qualification test.  Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in arc-welding of utility pipe lines.  Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate commercial driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina within six months of employment.  Possession of or ability to obtain CPR and basic first aid certification within one year of employment. 

Grade ES-7; salary range $55,203 - $91,894.  Pay Differential increase of $5.75 an hour added to pay upon hire.
