About the Job
The Fuel Cell Technician/Lab Specialist is responsible for analyzing and identifying solutions for product or system related issues in the production environment, providing technical support to other departments, as well as troubleshooting, diagnosing and solving issues with both hardware, software, and power generation issues. Interface with customer and suppliers to receive assistance in troubleshooting issues found at Piston or by customers. Interface with the Production department to ensure smooth system performance and enhancements. Reviewing test data to determine proper functioning of the assembly and testing processes. Assist in troubleshooting and coordination with maintenance or engineering when system failures occur within the inspection or test systems. Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards. Document proper repair procedures as they are identified or developed. Create documents for fault systems analysis and record the information. An awareness of electrical safety is required. You must have the ability to recognize operational inconsistencies and hazards in the work place and display proper judgment in responding to them.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time plant position with no hybrid work schedule available.
Responsibilities:- Oversight of all Inspection and testing equipment for fuel cell assembly, including but not limited to Vision Inspection, Leak Testing, Electrical Testing & EOL Functional Testing.
- Coordination between the customer and the internal quality, engineering and Maintenance teams to ensure all inspection and testing is being performed and validated to meet all requirements.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting Product & Process Equipment, including but not limited too wiring, electronics modules, and test equipment to determine what is going wrong and document system faults.
- Develop, performing and audit daily process audits of all Test & Inspection equipment per audit procedures and the control plan.
- Perform other assigned daily process audits across Assembly & Test.
- Management of ongoing Calibration and Certifications of Test & Inspection Equipment
- Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
- Monitoring & Management of Process Capability of Test & Inspection Equipment
- Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
- Lead diagnostics for all Product related issues, both from Production and from Customer Returns.
- Main point of contact to the customer for Testing & Diagnostics support
- Responsible to work with Quality to ensure approved deviations or engineering changes are received prior to making any changes to the Testing or Inspection processes.
- Maybe be required to support customer with offsite / infield service diagnostics.
- Analyze and calculate machine performance and requirements.
- Participates in the design reviews and validation of test and inspection equipment requirements.
- Responsible for receiving and organizing all equipment and process documentation related to Inspection & Test equipment. This includes all OEM Equipment Documentation (electronic and hard copies of Manuals, BOM, Drawings, recommended spare parts and recommended PM’s).
- Main interface, Post Production with Inspection & Test equipment OEM’s for support & troubleshooting.
- Drive lean concepts (5S, OEE, Kanban, Visual Factory, TPM etc.) throughout the organization.
- Implement process improvements to improve overall efficiencies, including test & inspection improvements.
- Supports the APQP activities assigned through the Program Management group.
- Creates all controls related communication internally and externally, including technical presentation, design reviews, capacity analysis, and feasibility studies.
- Provide guidance in equipment and capital selection to the Purchasing Dept.
- Responsible for problem solving and resolution of issues at all sites as directed / or required.
- Must be able to travel as required to support launch, engineering change or production related activities.
- May be required to work overtime when needed or when it would be advantageous to perform task at a time other than regular hours
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Instrumentation, Computer Programming, or related field) or equivalent professional experience
At least 5 years in roles such as Electrical Technical Specialist, Test Engineer, Field Technician, or Controls Engineer - Demonstrated expertise (5+ years) with:
- AutoCAD
- Testing & CAN Communication Software
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint)
- Extensive experience (minimum 5 years) in:
- Manufacturing or testing environments
- Manual and automated assembly systems
- Testing technologies (mechanical and electrical control systems)
- Industrial Safety Standards and requirements
