Quality Assurance Manager

The Quality Assurance Manager will ensure compliance with USDA regulations and company procedures, overseeing the quality of food products to meet company standards and customer requirements. This role involves monitoring food safety protocols, performing inspections, and ensuring that the plant meets food quality and safety standards at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and perform Pre-Operational and Operational inspections, ensuring thorough documentation and review.
- Work with plant staff (porters) to ensure the facility is kept clean both inside and outside.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments to ensure food safety and product quality.
- Monitor freezer and cooler temperatures to maintain proper storage conditions.
- Review daily receiving records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Conduct daily HACCP direct observations and record reviews to ensure food safety protocols are followed.
- Monitor daily quality control (QC) paperwork and ensure proper documentation.
- Conduct daily walkthroughs with the inspector on duty to assess facility operations.
- Perform monthly internal audits to ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards.
- Supervise and document weekly environmental swabbing, review test results, and arrange corrective actions as necessary.
- Collect samples for lab testing (microbial testing) and review test results, implementing corrective actions when required.
- Review and update the Master Cleaning Schedule as needed.
- Supervise and train QC Technicians to maintain quality standards and improve processes.
- Conduct HACCP and Food Quality Plan reassessments to ensure continued compliance and improvement.
- Develop, maintain, and improve food safety and quality procedures, including adherence to SQF policies.
- Uphold, follow, and maintain the requirements of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing.
- Perform other duties as assigned or volunteered for.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
- Basic computer skills required; familiarity with food safety software is a plus.
- Experience working with USDA facility and Health Inspectors.
- Strong interpersonal skills to maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels.
- Ability to cross-train staff in food safety and quality protocols.
- Knowledge of SSOP, GMP, and SQF requirements.
Education and Technical Qualifications
- High School Diploma required.
- State of Illinois Food Sanitation Certification required.
- College degree or 5+ years of experience in the food industry preferred.
- HACCP Certified required.
- SQF Certified required.
Food Safety & Quality Responsibility
- Report any food safety or quality issues to management.
- Immediately report any risks, out-of-specification products, equipment, packaging, or raw materials to the designated manager for resolution.
