Job Summary
Responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following established infection control practices.Must be conscientious with regard to procedures and capable of working under pressure and interacting professionally with other departments within the hospital. Able to accept new ideas and learn position duties. Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities.
Salary Rate: $26.00
Minimum Education and Work Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1-2 years’ experience or an equivalent of education and experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications
- CRCST or CPSPDrequired.
- Ensures proper operation of autoclave units prior to use on a daily basis.
- Files requisitions and inventories supplies.
- Helps with loaning and borrowing of instruments.
- Knowledgeable regarding handling and care of instruments, tray preparation and special procedure items.
- Performs tray assemblage, proper packaging and preparation of all applicable supplies for sterilization. Monitors sterility dates on supplies.
- Processes or oversees all contaminated instruments and supplies returned to Central Service.
- Properly loads, operates and cleans all sterilizers, gas and steam, and all general equipment using biological and chemical control tests as required by department.
- Runs biological and chemical tests at beginning of the day shift. Records results in appropriate log.
- Stores prepared articles and supplies in designated areas.
- Understands specialty equipment, keeps knowledge up-to-date, is technical resource for others, follows technology practices and standards.
- Uses knowledge of sterilization principles to correctly wrap or package items for sterilization
- Effectively navigate through SPM Tracking System
- Uses proper aseptic technique principles and practices’
- Knowledgeable with the use, function and care of surgical instrumentation
- Capable of surgical instrumentation identification, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, storage and distribution
- Knowledgeable with implant sets with an emphasis on orthopedic and neurological, and cardiac trays
- Process equipment as needed
- Understands different types of sterilizer operation, cleaning, testing, monitoring and documentation activities
- Assembles case carts using Surgeon Preference card file
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
