POSITION TITLE: OPTOMETRY TECHNICIAN-FLOAT
FLSA: NON-EXEMPT
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- High School Graduate/GED
- One year of experience as customer service in optometry or medical clinic.
- Medical terminology preferred
- Able to operate a variety of medical equipment such as autorefractor, tonometer, fundus photography, and lensometer.
- Ability to multi-task and have high attention to detail.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Prepares patients for vision examination, using a variety of instruments, such as an autorefractor, tonometer, fundus photo camera, and a lensometer.
- Assist in the purchasing of eyeglass orders and taking measurements as needed.
- Maintains records, schedules appointments, assist with optometry referrals and files correspondence.
- Helps in the care and use of eyeglasses including repairs and adjustments.
- Maintains optometric equipment to include inventory and ordering of all cleaning materials.
- Maintains open communication with Optometrist and optometric Coordinator.
- Put in requests for authorizations for replacement glasses and medical office visits as needed.
- Intake, verify prescriptions and dispense all eyeglass orders received.
- Assists patients with self-pay process verifying insurance eligibility generating claims for billing insurance plans.
- Travels to all Optometry sites as needed for coverage
- Other duties as assigned.
