Freedom House EMT Trainee - City of Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh, PA
About the Job
Freedom House Ambulance Service was the first emergency medical service in the United States to be staffed by paramedics with medical training beyond basic first aid. Founded in 1967 to serve the predominantly black residents in Pittsburgh's Hill District neighborhood, Freedom House was staffed entirely by African Americans. Their groundbreaking work became the basis for pre-hospital training in the country. Now, the Pittsburgh Bureau Emergency Medical Services is re-vamping the Freedom House name. The new Pittsburgh EMS – Freedom House EMT Training Academy will offer a 12-week EMT Training program, during the program candidates will become nationally registered EMTs and gain valuable on the job training. Once completed, the trainee will obtain employment as an EMT with the City of Pittsburgh.
