ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are seeking a skilled Forklift Mechanic to join our team. As a Forklift Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing forklifts and other material handling equipment. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of hydraulic schematics, pneumatics, and electrical troubleshooting. You will be working in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that all equipment is running efficiently and safely. This position is located at our facility in Jessup, MD and the schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm (and Sundays as needed).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform routine, emergency and preventative maintenance of forklifts.
- Troubleshoot forklift problems to include brake, electrical and hydraulic systems, detect imperfections, potential problems, safety issues and/or malfunctions.
- Replace broken or defective parts from stock parts and communicate the need to order replacement parts.
- Repairs and maintains various types of forklift trucks including electric, gas-powered, and propane powered.
- Interpret manufacturer's technical manuals to perform the necessary maintenance and repairs needed.
- Perform safety inspection of forklifts prior to being released back to the work floor.
- Remove unsafe equipment from facility operating area and notify supervisor.
- Ensures batteries for electric forklift trucks are fully charged.
- Replaces empty propane tanks on propane-powered forklift trucks.
- Maintains repair log for forklift truck fleet.
- Maintains a safe, clean working environment.
- Participates in quality improvement efforts.
- Performs required administrative tasks; prepares all required reports and correspondence.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- One to two years of related work experience
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred
- Completion of forklift truck mechanic’s training course required
- Solid foundation of mechanical aptitude and ability along with knowledge of industrial electricity up to 440 volts would be preferred
- Forklift operator certified
- Able to work safely and follow company rules and procedures
- Ability to use hand and power tools to repair forklift trucks
- Ability to read repair manuals for various types of forklift trucks
- Able to diagnose and repair mast and attachment components
- Good working knowledge of brake systems and tire/wheel changes
- Excellent mechanical repair skills
- Ability to follow instructions
- Must be physically capable of accessing parts of the machine needing repairs or maintenance, either by kneeling or lying on back
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time
- Prolonged periods of moving around the production floor
- Work is performed in warehouse setting that includes cold temperatures, high noise levels, bright lights, and stairs
