A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FOREPERSON
As the Foreperson, it is your responsibility to coordinate daily work for assigned projects, and ensure that the crews run efficiently, safely, and on time. You collaborate closely with the Project Managers, Superintendents, and construction workers to accurately guide day-to-day tasks, and problem solving issues that come up in the field. You may perform some layouts as well as read and interpret blue prints and plan designs. You are held accountable for maintaining daily logs and reporting progress to the Superintendent/PM- sometimes tracking measurements. Your knowledge and leadership skills bring out the best in the crew, as well as put you in a unique position to shape the future of the workforce. Any new or unexperienced laborers rely on you for accurate training and mentorship. Of course, the majority of your day consists of executing the labor of the project, whether it is a construction, highway, utility, or grading day, you are in the thick of it leading the team.
With your role comes additional responsibilities that are essential to the workflow of the projects. You may be in charge of the pickups and deliveries of construction materials, the maintenance of the tools and equipment, and the jobsite clean up, as these aspects can help eliminate potential hazards. You are in a position to participate in certain required training, which will help elevate your professional development. QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE FOREPERSON
- A High School diploma and three (3) years of experience in heavy construction in the civil construction industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction of highways and roads, site work, or other related fields. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction plans, and contracts.
- General knowledge of construction survey terminology that is involved in heavy civil construction projects. Familiar with wide variety of heavy highway and survey practices and principles.
- Experience working in a "self-perform" multi-trade project environment
- Ability to lead and work with a variety of personalities.
- Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions.
- Ability to remain flexible as specific assignments change
- Proven leadership skills and ability to delegate work.
- Valid driver's license,
- Ability to successfully pass a CORI background check is required for certain projects.
- Have or be able to obtain OSHA 10 certification, first aid/CPR certification.

FOREPERSON WORK SCHEDULE
Our standard office hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00 - 5:00 pm. During the construction season, the construction division is normally at the job site by 6:30 am and finished by 5:00 pm (based on projects assigned and time of year--peak periods are spring and fall).
