Job Title: Forensic Psychologist
Overview: We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Forensic Psychologist to join our team. As a Forensic Psychologist, you will apply your expertise in psychology to the intersection of law and mental health, providing assessment, treatment, and consultation services within legal contexts. Your work will contribute to the fair administration of justice while promoting the well-being and rehabilitation of individuals involved in the legal system.
Responsibilities:
Psychological Assessment:
- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments of individuals involved in legal proceedings, including defendants, victims, and witnesses.
- Administer and interpret standardized psychological tests to evaluate cognitive functioning, personality traits, risk of violence, and other relevant factors.
- Provide expert testimony and forensic evaluation reports to aid in legal decision-making.
Risk Assessment and Management:
- Assess the risk of violence, recidivism, and dangerousness among individuals within correctional, civil, and forensic psychiatric settings.
- Develop risk management plans and recommendations to mitigate potential harm and enhance public safety.
- Collaborate with legal professionals, correctional staff, and treatment teams to implement risk reduction strategies.
Treatment and Intervention:
- Provide individual and group therapy to individuals with a history of criminal behavior, substance abuse, or mental illness.
- Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to address specific psychological needs and criminogenic factors.
- Utilize evidence-based interventions, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and trauma-informed care, to promote rehabilitation and reduce recidivism.
Consultation and Collaboration:
- Consult with attorneys, judges, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders on matters related to mental health and the legal system.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on issues such as competency to stand trial, insanity defense, and sentencing recommendations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive care and forensic evaluations.
Research and Program Development:
- Conduct research on topics relevant to forensic psychology, including risk assessment, treatment effectiveness, and the intersection of mental health and criminal behavior.
- Develop and implement programs aimed at improving outcomes for individuals involved in the criminal justice system, such as diversion programs and specialized treatment tracks.
Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology or Forensic Psychology from an accredited institution.
- Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a psychologist in the state of practice.
- Board certification or eligibility for board certification in Forensic Psychology preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of post-doctoral experience in forensic psychology or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of forensic assessment techniques, including risk assessment instruments and forensic interviewing protocols.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex psychological concepts to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within legal and correctional systems, maintaining objectivity and ethical standards.
