Aptive Resources is seeking a diligent and dedicated Food Service Worker to support the VA Medical Center in Wilmington, DE. The Food Service Worker will be responsible for various tasks related to food preparation, service, and sanitation to ensure that veterans receive high-quality meals in a clean and safe environment. This position is integral to maintaining the standards of the VA Medical Center and providing excellent service to our veterans.
Primary Responsibilities:- Tray-Line Setup and Breakdown: Set up various stations on the central tray-line with all food and non-food items needed to serve meals. Break down and clean assigned areas and return items to designated locations.
- Cafeteria Service: Serve food cafeteria style to veterans, staff, and visitors.
- Table Service: Prepare service stands by setting up condiments, silverware, and glassware for table service. Serve tables by placing food and beverages on tables and replenish as necessary.
- Food Cart Management: Load and deliver food carts to patient care units. Distribute trays and/or nourishments to specified locations or directly to patients' bedside.
- Tray Collection: Collect soiled trays and return them to the dish-room for processing.
- Food Preparation: Assemble salads and cold sandwiches from prepared ingredients and pack box lunches.
- Dishwashing: Set up and operate the dishwasher. Clean and maintain the dishwasher by inspecting doors, strainer pans, screens, and spray arms as necessary.
- Utensil Cleaning: Scrape, soak, and scrub heavier cooking utensils such as pots, mixing bowls, and other large size utensils.
- Heavy Duty Cleaning: Perform heavy-duty cleaning throughout the food service and related areas, including cleaning exhaust hoods, spaces under and behind kitchen equipment, and washing floors and walls with power equipment (including moving equipment).
- Refrigerator and Freezer Cleaning: Clean walk-in refrigerators and freezers.
- Food Unloading: Unload food from delivery trucks.
- Other Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned to support the food service operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in food service or a similar environment preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to interact positively with veterans, staff, and visitors.
- Physical ability to perform tasks that require prolonged standing, walking, bending, and lifting of heavy items.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to obtain any government required background check
