Position Summary:
- Working in a poultry house environment in a Cage-free environment
- Ensuring Biosecurity processes are followed to help keep the overall health of the hens.
- Ensure feeding and watering system are working properly.
- Maintain a clean house including dust, mortality, and manure.
- Animal Husbandry by promoting good behavior among the hens.
Essential Duties, Functions, and responsibilities:
- Help remove hens from nesting boxes while gathering eggs.
- May maneuver a pushcart along breeder house aisles to collect eggs in nesting boxes.
- Walk through the breeder house to collect eggs outside the nesting boxes and ensure that all birds are moved.
- Working in a poultry house environment in a Cage-free environment
- Remove dead birds from houses.
- Check the water levels.
- Check cups for leaks or clogs.
- Check that there is a feed available.
- Pick up floor eggs & count floor eggs. Report the number of floor eggs on the count sheet.
- Clear any clogged portholes.
- Clean front of houses & complete Front of House Cleaning Check List
- Throw away dead birds onto the belt at end of the day and complete the "Flock Record Card.”
- Animal Husbandry - Promote good behavior amongst chickens, separate any pecking chickens, prevent chicken piling, attempt to nurse birds back to health that looks sick, and help any chickens that appear to be stuck.
- Report any broken items to Maintenance.
- Turn in the Front of House Cleaning Check List and "Flock Record Card” to the Lead.
- Other duties as defined by management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: -
- Bachelor's degree and professional license in an animal-related field.
- Ability to work up to 6 days a week, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions and perform simple tasks
- Ability to perform essential duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to maintain and record egg-gathering information.
- Ability to gather eggs in a manner that prevents excessive breakage.
- Ability to work with chemicals, such as detergents, disinfectants, etc.
- Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
- Ability to perform work that is repetitive in nature.
Physical Requirements
- Stand for long periods of time.
- Grip, grasp, or twist using hands and wrists.
- Lift and carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs or more.
- Push, and/or pull up to 100lbs or more.
- Bend and/or stoop repetitively throughout our shift.
- Working Conditions/Department Description:
- Working in a poultry house environment, including working outdoors and in seasonal conditions such as:
- Working in very hot temperatures.
- Working in very cold temperatures such as snow, sleet, etc
- Working in dry and/or dusty environments.
- Working in damp and/or wet climates.
- Working with live animals, and the associated environment, including but not limited to:
- Working around farm-related smells or foul odor
- Working in a loud/noisy environment.
- Working in an environment with substantial dust circulation.
