Job Title: Fleet Mechanic (Hybrid and Electric Vehicles)

Job Summary:
The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for performing routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a fleet of gasoline-powered and electric vehicles (EVs). This role requires expertise in both traditional internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs) and electric drivetrains. The mechanic will ensure that all fleet vehicles are safe, reliable, and operating efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Vehicle Maintenance and Repair:
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles, including oil changes, brake inspections, tire rotations, and filter replacements.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on gasoline-powered and electric vehicles, such as engine malfunctions, drivetrain issues, and electrical system problems.
- Conduct battery checks, charging system diagnostics, and repairs on electric vehicles.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical components, including wiring, controllers, and electric motors for EVs.
2. Diagnostics and Testing:
- Use diagnostic tools and software to identify vehicle issues, including EV-specific diagnostics for battery performance, regenerative braking, and motor efficiency.
- Perform road tests and other functional tests to ensure vehicles are properly repaired and meet performance standards.
3. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the fleet manager and team to prioritize maintenance tasks and minimize vehicle downtime.
- Maintain clear and accurate records of all maintenance and repairs performed, including parts used, hours worked, and vehicle conditions.
- Communicate with vendors and parts suppliers for ordering replacement parts and necessary tools.
4. Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to all safety protocols when working on both gasoline and electric vehicles, including proper handling of high-voltage systems in EVs.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, especially in the handling and disposal of hazardous materials like batteries and oil.
- Keep up-to-date with industry standards, emerging technologies, and best practices for both ICEVs and EVs.
5. Fleet Performance Monitoring:
- Monitor vehicle performance through telematics and onboard diagnostics systems, especially focusing on energy efficiency for EVs.
- Provide feedback on ways to improve fleet efficiency, extend vehicle lifespan, and reduce overall maintenance costs.
- Conduct inspections and audits to ensure fleet vehicles meet company standards for safety and performance.
Required Qualifications:
- Certifications: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification is preferred. Certification in EV maintenance or high-voltage systems is highly desirable.
-Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of gasoline engines, drivetrains, suspension systems, and electric vehicle components such as battery systems, electric motors, and charging stations.
Skills:
- Proficient in using diagnostic tools, both for traditional vehicles and electric vehicle systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair guides.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of safety procedures for working with high-voltage systems.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various physical positions, including standing, crouching, and lying under vehicles.
- Capable of working in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working on a fleet team or in a similar role with a mixed fleet of gasoline and electric vehicles.
- Familiarity with fleet management software and telematics systems.
- Experience Minimum 1-2 years of experience in automotive maintenance and repair, including experience with electric vehicles.
Work Environment:
- This position operates in a shop environment with exposure to fumes, chemicals, and loud noise. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
