About the Job
Dennis Group’s Fire Protection Engineers apply scientific and engineering principles to help protect people, property and the environment from fire and related hazards. They utilize engineering principles guided by codes and standards to design fire suppression, detection, and other safety systems with the objective of providing increased property and life safety.
We are seeking a dedicated Fire Protection Engineering Specialist with specific emphasis on water-based suppression and special hazard system design.
Your responsibilities will include working with all project stakeholders throughout the entire project development process in assessing suppression system requirements, infrastructure, preparing “Basis of Design” documents, specifications and managing installing contractors.
The ideal candidate will be well-versed in multiple aspects of fire protection and building construction including code analysis, fire tanks and pumps, sprinkler systems, clean agent systems, ESFR and IRAS systems, fire suppression/alarm interfacing, drawing & specification development, contractor procurement and management, ITM requirements, Insurance and AHJ collaboration, commissioning, owner training and document control.
Main Responsibilities
- Commodity classification, hazard, and suppression requirement analysis.
- Infrastructure analysis including supply, tank, and pump requirements.
- Research codes, standards, insurance underwriter and client requirements.
- Survey and evaluate fire suppression system performance with recommendations.
- Identify fire hazards and propose solutions to mitigate risks.
- Advising architects, engineers, and construction professionals on regulations & strategies.
- Create proposed suppression layouts with hydraulic and fluid delivery time calculations.
- Develop fire suppression Basis of Design drawings and specifications including criteria, design, and direction.
- Produce bid documentation, schedules, contract breakouts & all required to obtain quotes.
- Review bids and present best options to stakeholders.
- Manage the entire design, coordination, submittal, review, installation, testing and commissioning for fire suppression systems ensuring correct installation and operation.
Qualifications
- Degree in a Fire Protection Engineering related field or minimum 10 years’ experience.
- Strong knowledge of fire protection regulations & procedures including FM Global.
- Strong understanding of fire suppression design—special hazard & alarm systems a plus.
- Ability to analyze blueprints and technical diagrams.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and training skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- NICET III/IV in Water Based Systems or FPE with emphasis in suppression.
- Knowledge of ACAD/SprinkCAD and Revit
