Job DescriptionWe are seeking a skilled and dedicated Fire Engineer to assist in Disaster Relief, this is a response to Hurricane Helene. Performs a full range of firefighting / EMS duties including the suppression of various types of fires, emergency medical services, fire training, prevention, station, equipment, and apparatus maintenance. Responds to fire, rescue, and emergency medical calls according to protocols developed by the Clinical Operations Director. Carries out emergency medical protocols for the care of sick and injured. Safely drives the fire apparatus to and from emergency calls. Maintains fire and EMS equipment and returns equipment to an in-service condition after each call.
Qualifications- Responds to emergency requests for fire and medical services within the Disaster Response Base Camp
- Provide Basic Life Support to patients within the base camp site.
- Assessment and documentation of the patient’s vital signs, chief complaint, medical history, prescribed medications.
- Report all changes in patient’s conditions to the medical provider.
- Proactively and independently administer basic EMT (or AEMT) level care within the standing orders and SOPs without exceeding your licensed scope of care.,
- Operated water pump apparatus during fire suppression activities.
- Performs routine maintenance on fire/ambulance apparatus, including minor mechanical and cleaning work and keeping written maintenance log current
- Maintains supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies
- Restocking EMS units once supplies are received as well as assisting other clinic operators with restocking
- Crosstrain to work within the Intl.SOS onsite base camp medical clinics
Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to operate and maintain fire suppression pumps and apparatus.
- Ability to assess and treat adult patients in pre-hospital setting.
- Ability to successfully perform BLS interventions in accordance with protocols
- Ability to administer medication in adult patients in accordance with protocols
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficient IT skills including the use of electronic medical records systems
Essential Capabilities:
- Ability to function with accuracy and efficiency in high-pressure or emergent situations.
- Ability to respond calmly in emergency situations.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to manage and provide concise directions to supporting staff.
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing work conditions and responsibilities.
Required Work Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of Fire Fighting and EMS experience in a busy 911 system
- Minimum of 1 year as a Certified Pump Operator within a busy Fire Service
- Experience in a remote setting is preferred
- Prior rural and brush fire experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Approved state or national accredited (IFSAC or ProBoard) Firefighter I & II certification that conforms to NFPA 1001 (2008 or 2013 Standards). – Required
- Certified as a Pump Operator in the State of Florida, or have received equivalent training in another state, and pass a state written examination.
- Current NREMT Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT). Required
- Hold a current unrestricted Florida license as a EMT or AEMT – Required
- Current Florida State Driver License– Required
- Hold an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) certification– Required
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
- Certified in S-130/S-190/L-180: Basic Wildland Firefighter – Required

Compensation| Min: $50/hr + 1.5 overtime, anything over 40 hours.
This project is a rapid response assignment due to the recent severe weather impacting the coast of Florida.
Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. The final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
