FIRE AND EMS TRAINING COORDINATOR
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The FIRE and EMS Training Coordinator supports both Battalion Chiefs (EMS and Training) in the development, coordination, and execution of training programs for firefighting personnel in the fire department. This role involves assisting in assessing training needs, coordinating fire and EMS training sessions, EMS Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), and ensuring compliance with Lake Havasu City policies and operating procedures.
Hours per week: 40 hours (PSPRS)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or General Education (GED) and five (5) year's experience in fire and emergency medical services of which four (4) years as a Paramedic.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An Engineer or a qualified Acting Engineer with the Lake Havasu City Fire Department. (Internal Candidates ONLY)
An associate degree in Fire Science or Paramedicine is preferred but not required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Completion of the following college-level courses or equivalent:
- ENG 136 Technical Report Writing (other college-level English courses will be considered)
- FSC 233 Building Construction
- FSC 235 Tactics and Strategies
Possession of (NFPA) 1001 Firefighter I and II certification issued by the Office of the Arizona State Fire Marshal, Arizona Center for Fire Service Excellence, or other state or federal NFPA equivalent at hire.
Possession and maintenance of Arizona State Certification or National Registry Certification as an Emergency Medical Certified Technician-Paramedic (EMCT-P) and ability to maintain continuing education requirements at the minimum level established at hire. Must obtain and maintain medical control issued by the medical director.
Possession of National Incident Management (NIMS) Training 100, 200, 700, & 800 at the time of hire.
Possession of Fire Instructor I & II NFPA 1041 at time of hire.
Possession of NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer (ISO) Certifications within at time of hire.
Successful completion of Blue Card Incident Command (IC) training program for NIMS type IV & V incidents.
May require possession of, or ability to obtain, specific licenses and/or teaching certifications depending on departmental assignment. (Instructor certification in ACLS, PALS, and CPR).
Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for the position.
Valid Driver's License of the appropriate class.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of federal, state, and regional standards of care as well as ADHS guidelines and NFPA 1001 fire service standards. Theories, principles, and techniques used to facilitate adult learning.; principles of healthcare delivery systems and EMS; methods of conducting medical investigations. Experience with electronic patient care (ePCR) documentation systems; the process of disease transmission and infection control; coordinating training and instruction on ACLS, PALS, CPR, and other certification courses.
Skill in the use of personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment; recognizing potential medical/legal risk situations; serving and evaluating trends in EMS training and developing goals and objectives; prioritizing own work projects and assigning tasks as needed; communicating technical medical concepts and practices in simple non-technical language based on the audience and provide direction or instruction to other staff members; representing the Fire Department at meetings with local, state, and regional medical direction authorities; assisting in developing a training schedule in accordance with state regulations and statues and department needs.
Ability to work effectively under time constraints; conduct presentations and facilitate meetings; analyze data, identify trends, and develop strategies for improvement; conduct shift drills and monitor proficiency; establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, community organizations, department heads, elected officials, executive management, other departments, other governmental and regulatory agencies, and the public; drive and operate fire apparatus, power tools, and heavy equipment during emergency incidents and non-emergency project work; write routine correspondence, including logs, data collection, and reports; carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
This work requires the frequent exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to extreme heat (non-weather) and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment, frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
