Description:
- Manages the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, supplemental schedules, and Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) required by statutory regulations, including appropriate internet filing requirements with the NAIC, rating agencies, and state filings.
- Oversees financial reporting for all operations (related charitable entities and insurance operations).
- Prepares various reports and schedules requested by management. Manages the preparation of select surveys from external consultants and regulators.
- Performs duties of the Director of Financial Reporting in his/her absence and other related duties, as needed.
Core Responsibilities - Manages the activities of the financial reporting function, including directing, advising, and managing direct reports; makes recommendations on hiring, performance appraisals, and related employment issues.
- Trains or provides appropriate training for employees; coaches, provides feedback, counsels, and motivates employees.
- Directs and manages the preparation of financial statements. Coordinates preparation of quarterly reports. Review supporting schedules for the financial statements to accommodate for changes in the Quarterly and Annual Statements. Works with various departments supplying schedules to ensure timely receipt and accuracy of data. Manages the foreign exchange valuation process for all entities. Annually prepares the Risk Based Capital report, the New York Supplement and oversees state-required filings. Oversees close out of year-end retained earnings for all entities. Throughout the year, files appropriate NAIC and regulatory filings, MD&A Report, long-term care experience report, Investment Risk Interrogatories, and external auditors' Financial Reports.
- Prepares and/or coordinates various reports, including the financial statement section of the Supreme Secretary's Annual Convention report, internal financial statement for management's use, and quarterly financial statement and general expense trends. Interfaces with third-party administrators.
- Understand the Company’s products, services, and the required regulatory reporting requirements and disclosures.
- Directs process improvement initiatives that enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting.
- Participates in technical accounting research and in determining the proper reporting treatment of complex or unusual transactions.
- Liaisons with internal and external auditors and regulators and provides necessary support.

Education and Experience Qualifications Required:
- BS in Accounting.
- 6-8 years related accounting experience with 3-5 years in insurance or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- CPA preferred.
