Our client is a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) managing over $275 million in assets, catering to business owners, executives, professionals, and independent women with over $1 million in savings. They bring expertise in fiduciary services, helping clients achieve lasting financial well-being.
Summary
The Financial Planner, CPA will play a strategic role in the core planning work—tax, investment, income, and legacy—for each client of the firm. This role requires someone to:
- Think through various financial planning and tax strategies and techniques
- Collaborate with the team to identify integrated planning strategies with tax opportunities
- Pay close attention to detail
- Evaluate and adjust appropriate assumptions based on unique client situations
- Accurately utilize planning software and tax software
- Understand the implications of taxes on financial plans
- Navigate Excel models and formulas with ease
- Demonstrate strong math skills
As the Financial Planner, you will analyze and evaluate existing financial situations and plans for prospects and create scenarios and financial plans for clients with input from the firm's financial advisors. This includes gathering client documents, entering data into financial planning and tax software and spreadsheets, reviewing tax returns (not preparing or filing them), and collaborating with financial advisors to develop strategies and prepare for prospect or client presentations.
This role will increase the advisory team's capacity for meeting with prospects and clients promptly so that they have the necessary information to make informed decisions and move forward in the planning process.
Key Responsibilities
Information Gathering and Analysis:
- Interpret client financial statements to extract relevant information needed for evaluating current issues and opportunities.
- Build a spreadsheet of all financial holdings for evaluation of risk, allocation, and more.
- Calculate fees, costs, and expenses of investments in the current plan.
- Enter relevant client data into financial planning software and compare scenarios.
- Assess current tax liabilities for investment and retirement holdings.
- Create client-friendly income charts and retirement cash flows.
- Input investment performance and product results into financial models.
- Compare investment asset performance.
- Review analysis, documents, and reports with the advisory team, with an emphasis on tax strategies and opportunities.
Plan Design:
- Present findings, reports, analysis, and draft plans to the advisory team for discussion and refinement.
- Finalize financial plans in the planning software under an advisor's guidance.
- Ensure planning materials have appropriate disclosures and meet compliance rules.
- Use internal checklists and templates to verify accuracy in planning documents.
- Assemble supporting materials for financial products and investments used in client presentations.
Presentation Materials:
- Ensure the quality, timeliness, accuracy, consistency, and relevance of planning and analysis materials presented to prospects and clients.
Knowledge of Planning Strategies & Techniques:
- Expand financial planning knowledge through internal training, industry publications, and certifications.
Compliance:
- Maintain compliance with firm policies and regulatory authorities, ensuring all materials and statements are accurate and non-misleading.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field.
- CPA designation.
- Minimum 1+ year of relevant experience in a financial services environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with minimal grammatical errors.
- Proven analytical skills and ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Ability to take direction and work collaboratively within a team structure.
Ideal Qualifications
- Experience in the financial services industry, with exposure to Wealthy & Wise, eMoney, Redtail CRM, and Holistiplan.
Day in the Life / Schedule
- Reports to the Chief Operating Officer (who is also a CPA).
- No supervisory responsibilities.
- Standard work schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (In Office).
- Minimal travel, mainly for learning and growth opportunities at conferences.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation: $90,000 - $120,000
- Annual pay and inflation adjustments possible
- Paid Time Off (PTO): 10 Days per calendar year
- Holidays: 10 paid holidays per year with extended time around Thanksgiving and Christmas
