Pay Range: Hiring/Starting pay range is $31.73 - $39.69/hourly, based on experience.

Position Purpose:
This position is primarily responsible for internal auditing functions, including but not limited to performing internal audits and analyzing accounting records and reports. This role also performs financial transaction processing and review, supports payroll processing in accordance with established governmental accounting procedures, and communicates findings and results to appropriate parties, both within the Finance Department and organization-wide. Additionally, the specialist will handle special projects and software updates as needed to support the finance department's operations.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive.
Perform internal audits and inventory control functions:
- Perform internal audits, including but not limited to performing inventory control functions related to physical assets (primarily parts inventory and fuel) in conjunction with various departments and coordinate asset disposals.
- Assist with developing audit scopes, checklists, policies, and procedures
- Monitor and review best practices for inventory control and assist in integration strategy with other software programs
Financial Transaction Processing:
- Perform initial review of accounts payable outflows
- Prepare and analyze complex calculations related to accounts receivable
- Act as P-card Administrator
Payroll Support Functions:
- Act as the primary backup for the Payroll Specialist
- Perform an initial review of incoming payroll transactions and identify any unusual trends
- Review and post payroll-related entries to the general ledger
- Reconcile and charge out employee benefits
- Create and analyze various payroll-related reports, including ACA reporting
- Review current payroll laws and best practices
Special Projects:
- Support management in special projects, maintaining reports and handling queries as needed.
- Participate in financial software upgrades and maintain system efficiency.
- Perform various duties related to ERP implementation and maintenance
Other Duties:
- Cross-train to learn and carry out other accounting duties and responsibilities to provide backup support within the department.
- Continuously evaluate and streamline financial processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Identify opportunities for automation and implement solutions to optimize financial operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Strong understanding of general ledger systems and financial software.
- Familiarity with budget preparations, auditing processes, and financial reconciliations.
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills to manage financial data and ensure accuracy in reporting.
- Strong computer skills, particularly in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for preparing reports and interacting with various departments.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills to identify discrepancies in financial data and recommend corrective actions.
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and reliability in handling assigned projects.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred, or a combination of experience and education that yields the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.
Experience:
- A minimum of four (4) years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license.
Working Conditions:
Light physical effort is required by handling objects up to 75 pounds occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, carrying, bending and squatting.
